I'm thinking Dale and I will be in on this, but I have no idea what to bring...food or gift wise...

I was thinking of maybe bringing a small Heavenly Ham...ham is good. If people wanted to make sandwiches, Katie, just so I don't bring the same stuff you have, I was thinking lettuce, tomatoes, mustard, mayo, and rolls. Any thoughts?

(I will RSVP when I know for sure.)

oooooo Ham! Perfect, imo. If you bring the fresh stuff, I'll supply the mustard and mayo, no problem. I hope you can come.
Gifts can be silly or serious, but under $20 bucks.

That may actually be a bit of a problem. Given that the shu mai don't transport too well (they cool off way too quick). I'll rig up the same thing I did last time (2 aluminum disposable pan things) if it'll make things easier.

As for the honey mustard chicken, I can have that ready to go.

While I can't say my stuff is under $20, it's close enough that I don't care. And the only hint I can provide is it won't be made of titanium.

ok..I'm following through with my threat of whiney PMs, begging folks to come to the party. I've sent 9 out so far, and am going through my list. If you haven't RSVP'd, be forewarned...I will PM you and beg you to come.
I bought my grab bag gift yesterday..it isn't silly, but the lucky recipient will like it.

Make sure you harass Grumbler. I know he's still alive, I saw him walking to his cube when I was sitting in a meeting on Wednesday.

I borrowed a radio from him on my very first DCMM run from Port Deposit, about 18 months ago... I still have it, and the rare occasions he shows up an event, always seem to coincide with when I forget to bring it along.

Make sure he knows I'll bring his radio.

Clarification for all of those whom I told I may not be able to make it at the bowling event... I mis-calculated my night shift. I begin working the evening shift the week after the party, not the week of... So I should still be in attendance with the waddling one.

Lordy, we have that little food? C'mon peeps, food isn't that difficult!
I asked Carrie to bring the soda at bowling...dunno if she will or not. She also said she'd bring an appetizer.
I guess I'll have to make something.
Can't someone bring a veggie plate? We can have that in lieu of salad.

I said previously I would be bringing a sweet treat. Now I know it is another dessert - but trust me it will be worth it if it all works out. If it falls through we (james and I) will bring something else.

We can bring a few bottles of soda too.

I'll have about 2-3 dozen shu mai.
The chicken on the other hand I should have about 2 dozen pieces or so and they are going to be normal size pieces, not tiny wing things. So there should be plenty of that too.

I have to un-RSVP myself. And I had an outfit to wear and everything. I can't take any time off after the 18th due to vacations in my department, so I am going to my parents for early Christmas the weekend of the 16th!

Holiday Party - Food

Sign up sheet for dishes!! Please remember, if you bring food, we can eat!
Is there a way that the Club can pay for some food, it looks that there is a healthy balance in the DCMM account.

The Club could easily put $500.00 for food, drinks and people can bring a little something. During the holidays is very difficult to find the time to: shop, prepare food etc...

Maybe if the Club pays for food members could bring new unwrapped toys or clothes and donate them to a local shelter or organization or to a national one.

Ok, being that lastrega said she can only bring soda, we'll let her do that and we won't bring any. If no one is bringing a veggie tray we'll be glad to bring one.

I consider unsalted butter to be part of a well balanced diet and will include it in the above.

BTW - It is not Victoria's favorite vegetable Brussell Sprouts

In the three year history of DCMM, the club has paid for the room rental at one place because the number of attendees did not end up covering the cost of the event. In other years, the holiday party has been "on our own" to feed and water ourselves. The tradition has been to bring a gift for a Yankee gift exchange.

That being said, I would not have a problem with kicking in some funding if necessary for the party. I think $500 would be way too much, however, since only about 20 club members look to be attending the event. (More people come = more money to spend, of course.)

Katie - can you let me know what you are having trouble coming up with for food/drink so we can judge the amount needed?

And finally, if the club kicks in some money, someone is going to have to go shopping for the food or get the food to Katie's in some manner. Is there anyone willing to do that?

Edit - this morning someone PM'd me to remind me that grocery stores and folks do deliver, so we could just order something and have it delivered to Katie's too.

I think it'd be easier in the long run if folks just bring something. That way, the onus is spread out...no one person has to shop for or store the food.
I think we'll be fine. If not, I live 1 mile from several grocery stores, a Heavenly Ham, and a seafood market. If it's cold out, I'll mull some cider to add to the drinks.
BTW, this is BYOB, tho' everyone knows drinking and driving is a no-no, right?
