Possible Tire Leak?

This morning on the way to work the low tire pressure light came on... When I stopped at the station to see what was going on, the left rear tire only had 25 psi. I did not see anything in the tire and the MINI only has 700 miles on it. Has anyone else had problems with tires losing pressure?

Weather changes can effect a tire's pressure. I'd pump it back up and keep and eye on it.

I have had problems with the indicator. Had to shut the car off to reset it. If the tire looks good, throw some soapy water around the stem. It could be unseated.

I had to reply to your note, b/c my name is Griff. Actually Griffin, but it looks like you just use that as your screen name.

Good Luck

Hitting the reset button next to the e-brake didn't clear yours?

The ambient temps so far have not been extreme enough to cause this but I do agree with putting air in it and keeping an eye on it.

I prefer Nitrogen in my tires....it reacts very little to ambient temp changes. Its very expensive for the service station to have this system but more and more are popping up. My local Costco uses a Nitrogen system.

Do you have the stem caps that feature the low pressure indicators on your tires? If so, there is your problem.

Well I found the culprit, a screw punctured the tire. Damn, only 739 total miles on the MINI. Has anyone ever patched or plugged one of these guys?

If the puncture is in the tread are it can most likely be patched.

I just recently plugged a RF tire. Make sure they use the patch/plug method meaning they remove the tire from the wheel. Only go to a Tire Rack certified shop because I went to NTB and they damaged my wheel They also said that the tire is no longer considered a RF becasue it has been repaired. Not sure what that means since it is the sidewalls that make it a RF.

Thats a new one......

Never trusted NTB anyway. I have never had any issues with patching tires on my own but since it is so brand new....take it to a decent shop. If it is too close to the edge they will most likely not touch it.

I just returned from Just Tires in Vienna where they have a special tire press to handle the run flats. They had me in and out in an hour and appear to have done a great job with no noticible damage to the web spokes.

Thanks for all of the comments and advice

Normally a plug/patch lowers the speed rating to the next lower letter.
