Tire prices online, Wow!

So I had my inspection done this morning and failed. I had a bubble on the sidewall of my rear tire. No big deal I figured I would need replacements soon.

Craven quoted me a runflat Goodyear Eagle RSA EMT at $390/each. Thats without installation. He then said they matched Tire Rack. I laughed and told him great, Tire Rack has it online for $188. He didnt believe me.

He checked and said they couldnt match that price but could install it for $30 if I order it.

So I ordered through Tire Rack. Got my tire at $188 and my tire should be in tomorrow. All said in done, I saved $200.

I can't believe the difference in price. Anyone else come across this?

Nothing that big of a difference, but I have taken Tire Rack and Costco online prices to local shops and they've matched them.

Good job looking out

I paid $350 installed for a runflat from a Goodyear store. I didn't have a spare and I was stuck so I paid the pipper.

They got like $280 for the tire.

A military-ran shop (which is known for having good prices most of the time) quoted me $200/tire for my Bridgestone Potenza S-03s. Tire Rack had 'em for $100.

I priced some Goodyear non-runflats at Tire Rack & then called my local Goodyear & they couldn't come close to matching the price . I mean Goodyear can't sell Goodyear for as cheap as Tire Rack . That's just odd. My local Goodyear said they only owned 2 shops & Goodyear bases their wholesale pricing on the # of units sold.

I did at least let Goodyear install my Tire Rack, Goodyear tires

bamatt that sounds like what I did with my new set of BF Goodrich KDW2s. I asked for a price, "thats nice". Ordered and had them delivered to the Goodyear shop which was an authorized Tirerack installer and had them install.

Tire Rack lowered the price a little bit within the last few weeks then. When I looked at some about a month ago they where around $220 - $230 a piece. I ended up going with the AVON Non-Runflats at $105 a piece and love them so far.

I don't want to preach or sound holier than thou, but if somebody consistently has better prices and works hard to get and keep our business (Alex, that's you guys! ) don't we owe it to them to do business with them rather than use their prices to get somebody else to match them? I could understand if it was a company that was unknown or untried, but Tirerack is the gold standard in service as well as price.

Just my $0.02

Tire Rack is definitely one of the best deals going. I've bought a couple sets of tires from them.

On the other hand, I decided on a Nokian tire for my latest purchase. Tire Rack doesn't carry that brand so I called another online vendor. Got quoted $170 per. My local dealer sold them to me for $99!

Yup, kudos to Tirerack and Alex. Bought 4 wheels and tires from them. Bought brakes from 'em. About to order another set of wheels and tires in a week or two. Been great to deal with.

FYI--

NTB will match any price, online or not. Just bring in proof. They will match plus shipping, which if i recall is 6 per tire.

Okay, totally off topic but is anyone else aware that the word craven means cowardly? That has puzzled me since I saw they had started a biz called Craven Speed but I figured it was too late to dissuade them from the name by then...

S0-3's normally run around $200 at TR too, but they are clearance right now. Good time to buy a set of five

We put the Craven in Speed

It is all too tempting to put a reply here so I had some fun...
There appeared to be a need to clear up any confusion about our name...

First, Craven Speed is in no way affiliated with Craven Tires. In fact we are located on opposite sides of the country. 'nuff said.

Second, the concept behind the name Craven Speed, aside from the obvious pun, is that speed has become afraid. Craven is used as an adjective i.e., 'the craven knight turned and ran'. In this case, the personification of Speed itself has become fearful because of our control over it and our ability to produce it at will. While most would fear Speed as it leads to a lack of control, we have dominated fear into a submissive and craven mess.

<----(a craven smiley guy)

I hope this was as much fun for you as it has been for me.

BUY STUFF!
