DC MINIs are super conservative from what I've observed...

I just ordered my 2006 MCS last week. I've been scouring the NAM site and the internet in general for graphic options (stripes, etc.) for my new baby. I've seen some great stuff across the web, but have noticed in the DC metro area that most MINIs are pretty understated. No stripes, decals, badges... Very plain. Nothing imaginative or sporty. This isn't in any way an influence on what I may or may not do to mine. I just couldn't help but notice. Maybe I am missing something.

Any thoughts on this?

I agree. Some in the club are very nicely done but virtually everyone I see is plain. I think the answer is simply because there are 140,000 MINIs sold in the US and how many are really enthusiasts into youification? Very few in comparison to the masses.

I would also consider that I think Money Magazine or US Today (maybe Forbes) just recently the richest counties in the US in the DC area has four in the top ten, two in N. Va and two in MD. That might have something to do with, or maybe not. But if someone buys a MC for commuting, they probably leave it alone ... that is what I see all the time.

I agree with you! I do think our club needs more graphics. But I am a bit jaded - since vinyl covers a good portion of Minerva.

I think if you came to DCMM events you would see many in our club have graphics and unique modifications. But we are the die hard enthusiasts. Three other people own MINIs here where I work now and all are totally stock - inside and out.

HA! You haven't seen mine.
So what if people want to be "plain". Most MINIs you see, I'll lay money on it, aren't DCMM members. In the DC/Balto area, the cars are ubiquitous and most are not bought by enthusiasts. Around here, they're mostly Point A to Point B cars. Not only are these cars not "graphiced", their owners don't wave either.

Katie - Totally forgot to ask you. Do you have a photo of your mini with emphasis on the roof? If so, I think the owner of Union Jacks (Gary) would appreciate seeing it. he was asking about club minis with the UJ on them.

I'm not the flashiest person in the world, but I definitely want my MCS to have character. The new baby should be completed in the late Oct, early Nov timeframe... Can't wait. I'll then become an official group member and see how the real enthusiasts play.

I've noticed that DC in general is a very conservative place. People here are pretty low-key and understated. Sometimes this can be to a fault as it seems some here don't know how to enjoy life and have fun. I really like DC but it can be a little drab. But I guess in regards to my MINI I shouldn't really talk since I haven't gotten around to doing anything on it yet...

I have to agree with most of you about how conservative this area is. I mean, go to the Capital arond lunch and all you see is grey and black. As for MINI's, most of the owners around here use them for transportation, that is why alot of us are not waving as much anymore. As for us, just look

As Jen said, you come to an event or two and you will see that we are more into the MINI world than the majority of the 'Just a MINI' crowd. As Jay's post says, ours is pretty wild. but then I wanted SoulFire to be noticed, and she sure is! She is in MC2, as well as on motortrend online...
But the majority of the club has stickers/clings, at least the DCMM cling, and some of the runs we go on.
See Jen's car, you can't see through the windows due to the stickers! WAY COOL!!
You will see some 'Out there' MINIS, I guarentee, those are probably club members!
If you want some really cool graphics, see Aesthetic Creations...Mike did all the graphics on SoulFire and they ROCK! That is all vinyl, as for painting, I don't know of anyone. But You can do ANYTHING with your MINI! the possibilities are endless!

Mine is pretty plain, but that's only because I'm not creative enough to come up with anything!! I guess that I could get some stripes or something... but that seems to 'normal' (meaning no offense to those who just have stripes!! ). I'll try to think of something for the tint/vinyl party!

As already said you need to go to an event.

Like this one last year where I had to open a third day for installs to fit all the requests. Did some major custom stuff that weekend and it sounds like I will be doing it again on the 14th of Oct.

OH and for those that do not have a creative mind that's my specialty. Ask MiniNurse

I can make you anything from wild to mild.

Check out last years AC/DC event.

I try to purposely keep mine MINImal.. If it werent for all the stickers and clings!

I prefer the class look of an all black MINI, like the photo Ive had hanging in my house(s) of an all black classic.

Wish my MINI were going to be ready by then. I'm definitely interested in the tint until I figure out the rest of what I want to do. But I won't be in the driver's seat until late Oct or early Nov.
