Auxiliary Jack

Salutations!

Where in the Nova / DC area can I buy and install an auxiliary jack? I want to be able to play my iPod or portable XM via the car speakers.

THANK YOU!

Mini of Sterling has them. I would install it your self if you have the means. Just plug it into the back of the radio. run the wire to where you want it to go. Drill a hole and your done.

I've heard of it costing a lot to have installed by dealers.

Oh, and if you are DCMM you get a discount, I think.

if DCMM gets a discount, and they are cheaper than http://outmotoring.com/mini_auxilary_audio_input.html pick up two. I'm looking around for one, but want to make sure I get my best possible deal.

FYI, I think Classic MINI is running a 25% off sale till the end of the month. I don't know what shipping would cost to the area though.

Classic doesn't charge a lot of shipping just the standard rate...but shhhh don't tell Mark that I know this. And yes they do for sure have a sale for 25% off everything just not JCW stuff but you they have the best prices and service around.

I may be wrong but I don't think you can go with the AUX kit if you are using the OEM Bluetooth which I am.
I have my XM in the boot...very clean install with great reception.

Are you in Nova by chance? I ask because I get horrible reception with my XM.

I have no issues up and 95 from Fredericksburg to Annapolis. If you are using XM via the FM modulator then you would have to adjust the frequency I have noticed. When I was using the portable XM units I found that the FM modulator was not the best because you only had a choice of 4 or 5 frequencies. Once I switched to a different FM modulator life was good because I had my choice of frequency.

With the XM in the boot it is hard wired which will give you the best sound quality. Its simple to do as all the connections are already there! The XM hockey puck sits on top of the roof right behind the antenna or you can take the XM antenna apart and add it to the AM/FM antenna already on your car.

Its a little different if you have a conv.

I have been with XM since they started and it has traveled with me wherever I have gone in this great country of ours.

Some government installations do block certain types of Sat reception but its nothing that aluminum foil wrapped around your head can't guard against!

When I first got my 06 MINI I had to run the XM through the radio (I have the NAV pkg). It was a pain using the fm radio because I would find a freq that would work in one area and if I drove twenty or thirty miles from home there would be a radio station overpowering the XM. Thanks to a DCMM member I found the pin outs for the AUX imput and NAV are different. The two units play very nice together. The head unit (stock with CD player) even lowers the radio when the NAV Pkg has something to say.

well, mine came today, and i just installed it, total time was about 30mins, about 20 of that was tring to find the little bolt i dropped it in my MINI and it took forever to find. but install was very easy, i only had to take off one part. and that is the bottommost plastic piece on the center 'stack' so i could drill the holes in it to put the mount and thread the wire through. Very Very easy install.

the Nav and Aux plug into two different locations on headunit, so wouldn't Nav or no Nav shouldn't affect anything, right?

xcaligali,

AND! Before you start drilling holes, check out the Euro parcel shelf. Most of us have it I believe, it makes a good place to mount the auxiliary jack. MINI of Sterling sells them.

Believe it or not I do have a parcel shelf. I am not completely out of it. Although it did come with the car.

I don't know about the drilling and all (I didn't, when I was hooking mine up), but we can definitely get it plugged up for you at least!

They plug into the same block of wires. If you have Navi (like me) then you need pull the wires from the aux wire block (pics are gone now) and put them into the stereo wiring. Its pretty easy if you don't mind pulling your car apart
