Rt 29

She said she easily saw 5 cars pulled over for speeding on Rt 29 on the way down and the way back.[/quote]

Just to reinforce what is said here. I live just off of 29S in Culpeper. There have been some changes to the posted speed limit of late. SOME stretches of 29 are now posted at 60 whilst others remain at 55. Police work "my" stretch of 29 every day and always have a lot of "customers" --- including, of late, my son and daughter! So --- in Culpeper county watch your speed! and then --- unfortuneatly when you get into Madison county --- the level of police traffic increases even more!
I haven't decided what I'm doing yet but will probably just go down on Saturday morning and poke about! You're all welcome to stop by my house for a "spot of tea" --- it's 45 seconds from Rt 29S. Some of you have stopped here before and then we caravaned to Cooper Vineyards.
Regards Philip

Actually, I changed our hotel to the Hampton Inn...they have the new beds that are advertised everywhere and those beds are the best plus free breakfast.

The Target in Gainesville works for me between 1-1:30pm, I'll be coming from the Pentagon, well it will be Dale and I. Can't wait to meet everyone.

Hi,
I am new to this but I am going to Charlottesville and would like to meet up in Gainesville. Anyone for Five Guys for lunch? Carl And Faith are staying at the Omni. I will be coming from Rockville. The people who are saying 29 is a speed trap are correct. There are several areas the cops hang out.

Super Target sounds like a plan! Ok so anyone who wants to drive down we can all meet up at the SuperTarget off 29 and 66.
Now, lets get a consensus of what time people want to leave. We were thinking about leaving between 1-1:30, that way we can get there when the crew is showing up. Let me know what time you all are thinking about.

1-1:30 is good for me. Can't do Five Guys, good idea though.

Looks like even though I regged for the MTTS stuff I'm going to take a pass on it. I'm way too burned out with work to really have too much motivation for anything else. I think I need a weekend to just veg out. Seeing as I think there was something I did (or am doing) every weekend this month.

So because of that I have 1 (one) of the MTTS bracelet thingys up for grabs. I'm keeping everything else.

Is that a 1:00 to 1:30 departure from SuperTarget? If so, departure time sounds good to me. I want to get there before 3:00 to do the MTTS check in.

I'm up for that, as long as it's near the Super Target where we'll be meeting. I couldn't find it on mapquest - where's it located?

With MiniNurse's indulgence, it sounds like the current plan is:
12p: Meet at Five Guys in Gainesville (if interested in lunch, CarlB to provide detailed location)
1p: Meet at Super Target in Gainesville

NLT 1:30p: Depart for C'ville

2:45p: Stop short of C'ville and mount our FLAGS!
3:00p: Arrive at the MTTS HQ, the Omni in C'ville, proudly flying our colors!
(Mapquest says it's 92 minutes from Gainesville to Charlottesville)

I thought about doing the check-in too, but was wondering if it's just for the folks who started that day's leg in West Virginia. Hard to tell from the way they word it on the website.

They might be handing out packets of information, etc at the check-in. It's probably how they keep track of who is participating. I'd like to check-in just to see...

This timing sounds great to me. just off 66 in Gainsville, on 29 South there is a new shopping area on the left. If you look on the left Five Guys is on the end of one of the buildings. They have a big sign. I am not 100 percent sure on the Target, but I think you turn left at the same trafic light and target is on the right and Five Guys is left. Turn left first street and it is down about a block on the left. I was in the Five Guys in June and it was just open. I can't remember if the sign on 29 was perminent.

I think I'll join you!

I don't know what my schedule is going to be on the afternoon of that Friday yet but if at all possible I will join the procession down to Charlottesville. It would be great if someone could telephone me as you are nearing Culpeper on 29S and then I'd just wait for you and tag along. If some one is willing to do that I could email that person a phone number -- any volunteers?

I think you may be cutting it close if you want to do the MTTS check in. You might want to back up departure time a little bit. MTTS check in is from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Looks like you might be arriving after the check in time with that schedule.

I can do that - PM me your details and then ping me again on that Thursday, 8/31, if you wouldn't mind sending me a reminder.

Yeah, I was thinking that too, but I'm not going to be able to leave any earlier, so I guess I'll just play it by ear.

I've got Manilla's info and can shoot out a call when we leave Target.

So do you think we should leave a little earlier. I would hate to miss something?! OR just keep it the same and make our own entrance!

I think if we can all commit to departing the Super Target at absolutely no later than 1pm, we'll have no trouble getting into Charlottesville before 3. But that means no grace period for those running late (and that didn't meet earlier at the Five Guys).

Also, are we planning on using radios? I've got a couple of the Motorolas...

Sadly, my radios are limited to channels, no subs.

You need to buy new radios then. I'm not kidding. Channel 7, Sub 21 is the "de facto" MINI channel... most of the clubs use it nationwide, DCMM included. We use it on all of our driving events too...

Good thing the 2-ways are cheap!
