VA Car Tax car value increase!
Interesting item of note:
Between the 2005 assessed value and the 2006 assessed value of my MINI, according to my county (Fairfax), it has INCREASED by 17%. I guess the government is just now starting to see the value of the MINI! Sucks though to have to pay more taxes on it than last year.
It's possible that MAYBE the 17% jump means they previously treated all MCs & MCSes as the same thing, but now have separate recognition for the MCS. Just a theory... we'll see if MC owners get a jump too.
Also, the tax "relief" has declined from 70% of the first $20,000 per vehicle to 66.7%. So basically they've started to reverse the tax relief.

But on the bright side those of us in Fairfax county can dump the %(&%#@$ county tax window stickers! (Excpet for a couple towns). I HATE stickers in my windshield. Now if they'd only put the inspection sticker on the plate...

I think my Loudon county assessment was cheaper last year, which I find hard to believe! Possibly because I think I only paid 6 months of it...
In Fairfax county, my 2005 MC assesed value is $19,420 which equals $295.53 in property taxes. That's about another car payment for me. *sigh*. At least I have until Oct. 5 to pay it.
(Tax amount: $887.49. Minus Car Relief of $591.96 to equal $295.53).
AND because I live in Herndon, I still have to buy one of those %@$$! stickers! (Clifton, Herndon and Vienna residents still need the decals).

I think I owe $245 on the MC this year.
Never had a car registered in VA before. (bought on 1/7)
Is that good, bad, worse than last year?
Am I gonna cry when I get the tax thing next year?

Personal Property Tax in VA- Arggg
So I've almost owned my '05 MCC for 2 years now and when I just paid my Personal Property Tax it went up. I know the value of my car isn't going up. VA stinks! 409 dollars a year to own a car is dumb.

Woah... are you sure you didn't check the box that you use your MINI as a business expense? Mine was only (ha, only!) $295, for my '05 MC. I got a bit of a break from "personal" use.

my 05 S was $400, yours is less because its a regular Cooper I assume

In Virginia, haven't they started undoing former Governor Gilmore's car tax relief, which may affect the amount of tax you pay?
Is the assessed value actually higher, or just how much tax you have to pay? (Sorry if I missed that in your earlier posts).

Just don't lease the car... Leased cars still get taxed by VA even if you're military. That's because the car is actually titled in the name of the leasing company and not in the name of the service member.... Guess how I know... Even if you're military with the car registered and titled out of VA, you still get hit with a tax bill from VA if you're living in VA...
