Yes

Yes, all the most deserving Darwin awards are posthumous.

I was tempted as you were to say that

But I think that's for another thread in OT....right now, let's just hope he gets out of court without too much damage.

Actually ... ALL Darwin awards are given posthumous.

Others are handed out as honorable mentions "survived" Those are the "wannabes"

Not true, self-castration also qualifies - check the Wikipedia article I linked to in my earlier post. The point is removal from the gene pool... posthumous is the most common, but not the only way to qualify!

Yep, your correct, just checked the "rules". However, to be exact ... that also includes the ladies ... all they got to do is something stupid enough to become sterile (and operations dont count)

IBTL means In Before The Lock, I.E. someone managed to add a comment before a moderator locks it down.

In Before The Lock

We dont want to discuss speed way in excess of the speed limit or the mods will lock the thread. Discretion

Suggestions from personal experience

Just my two cents on the subject based on my experience with the issue (although not in Loudin County). If you speed that's a personal decision as a driver. Can't blame the traffic around you for your own foot on the pedal.

As for court. Here's my suggestions. 1) Dress appropriately -- believe it or not the officer, judge, and Commonwealth's Attorney (prosecutor) all are influenced if you show up looking like you understand the significance of being in court (vice the rest of the mob in court in blue jeans and T-shirts). 2) Own up for your mistake. Not to say you have to plead guilty, but don't try to make the officer look foolish by saying he didn't know what he was doing while you couldn't possibly have been speeding. Accepting responsibilty for your actions goes farther in court with the judges than anything else I've ever seen. 3) When the court docket is called ask the judge for you case to be passed over long enough to speak with the Commonwealth's Attorney (CA). The CA's often recommend reduces charges or sentences if your record is relatively clean and you have no history of previous multiple speeding offenses. You can't lose by speaking with them about what type of deal (traffic school, reduced charges, reduced fines, etc) they might offer based on your circumstances and driving record. 4) Taking driving school before going into court doesn't hurt. Not guarenteed to help by it does show the judge you understand the situation and again are trying to be responsible for your actions.

And as an asside. I'm not sure that hiring an attorney who charges big bucks helps all that much in speeding type offenses. You can often speak to the CA just as effectively as an attorney can -- your choice.

What am I basing the comments on -- well let's just say my nic helps explain. I wear blue for work and spend a lot of days in court

Blue- Those are all good suggestions. I will keep them in mind if I have to go to court for a ticket.. Hopefully NOT!!
Good to know though.

I don't know about Loudon Co. but I got a ticket going to the MOTD on Augusta Co. 2 1/2 hours from DC doing, 13 over the speed limit. I showed up and told the judge that I was Guilty but had enrolled in a driving course (I had two speeding tickets last year in August so couldn't afford the points), he siad that if I took it and sent him the paper work the ticket would be dismissed.

You have nothing to lose and a lot to gain, specially if you take it before court, cause in my case I can't be awared the 5 good points.

worth the shot, now about the belt.................... "it takes all kind of people to make a world"
