[Sat, August 26] 2nd Annual Tubing the Potomac
[Sat, August 26] 2nd Annual Tubing the Potomac
Last year I organized this event and it was a blast. Unfortunately I posted this event too late last year so this year I am starting early!!! I hope to see a parking lot full of Minis!!!
Please join us for the 2nd Annual Tubing the Potomac. Enjoy an afternoon of tubing on the Potomac River followed by lunch in Harpers Ferry.
We will begin our adventure at Butts Tubes where will we will fill out a release form and pay our fees. The cost for tubing will be approximately $20. We will then choose a tube and congregate at the loading station where will be outfitted with a class III life vest and board the short bus…wink wink!
The bus will take us to the drop off spot above Harpers Ferry. The driver will explain the “do’s and don’ts” of tubing. We will then say our prayers and head for the Potomac River.
Our river escapade will take us 2 miles upstream on the Potomac River where we will experience class I, II and III rapids. This will be an unguided tour. The trip should take approximately 2 hours depending on how many people we lose along the way.
Upon completion of our tubing adventure on the Potomac we will be picked up by the bus and shuttled back to Butts Tubes. Afterwards we can head to a local restaurant for lunch and cheer.

I sent you the invite! Don't forget your camera
I went to Butt's tubing last year and had a blast (not with the MINI group, though).
Don't forget that if you come with some friends, bring along some rope to tie your tubes together, or else you will end up getting separated until the very end! We didn't bring any last year and we ended up tying our t-shirts into rope to try to keep us all together
(silly people, we had bathing suits on!).
I also saw quite a few people camped out on the large rocks and sand bar areas in the river having picnics... maybe an alternative for next year instead of a restaurant!

This sounds like a lot of fun. I have not been tubing in over 10 years. I think I might be able to talk JDM to come with us (increase the man count).
From their website it looks like you get lifevests, so some piece of mind for the non-swimmers.

As for wearing a swimsuit, I would recommend wearing shorts over the bottoms. Water + Rubber + Skin = Chaffing.

Tubing is fairly simple! You plant your butt in the tube and float! -Paul!
