TIME: 1pm till whenever!!
WHERE: 2815 Sagewood Dr. Glenwood,Md 21738
WHO: YOU!!!

Easiest directions (if you need more in depth ones and Google maps doesn't have it, PM me!)
The house is located literally a half mile from Lucky Dog Garage. In Glenwood Maryland.
From Rte 97 (GOING NORTH turn LEFT) (GOING SOUTH turn RIGHT) onto Longfield Rd (into the Wellington Subdivision)
At stopsign Turn RIGHT onto Hunt Valley Drive.
Make first LEFT onto Sagewood Drive.
At end of culdesac is communial driveway on left (has 2 mailboxes on left side 1 on right side) Within comm. drive, #2 driveway on left. There WILL be a marker!! It isn't that hard!!

The house is set way back from the drive and is grey and kind of the color of the trees. I know we can fit a few MINIS in the drive, but don't park on the grass, the ground is really soft. I don't want anyone sinking! You can't see the house from the start of the drive, so if you are driving around a bend and you then see a house with a MINI! You found it!! The door will be open, please feel free to come one in!

I'm assuming to bring floor jack, jack stands, chocks, complete ratchet / socket sets with breaker bars and torque wrench... Anything else? I've not done a sway bar so I don't know what's needed. Any allens or odd stuff? Air tools would fit in MINI, but alas the compressor won't ;-)

Oh and brats...

Dunno either, guess that is plenty. MDS is bringing some stuff as well, since I think we are going to put Soulfire's on Mia's once we get it off, that is if Sally can get the bushings she needs, hopefully... But the big thing for you is the cat issue. I do have some allergy meds. And we will be outside mostly. Is that going to work for you?

You know, I totally blanked yesterday. Sally can have the bushings AND your bar. You have new bushings with your new bar.

Cats aren't often a bother to me any longer. It seems to be a thing of the past. I out grew hayfever too. But thanks for the warning. In anycase I wouldn't want anyone else to fret about it. I'm a big boy.

I did, in fact, order new bushings from Towson on Wednesday. (called around, they had the best price)
They should hopefully arrive by Saturday. If not, I will just reuse your bushings. But I guess new ones couldn't hurt, eh?

Any one installing the rear sway may want to get some grease...Alta recommended marine grease to me(it can be purchased from auto parts store). With the Alta bushings you want to use a lot of grease to keep them from groaning.

Hey,

Yes, all of those are necessary, though air tools aren't really a necessity. As far as specific sway bar tools, if I remember rightly you will need a 21 mm socket, a 16 mm socket, a 13 mm socket, a 16 mm box/crescent wrench, and a 5 mm allen (socket type is best).

You may need a prybar, but it's possible to do without, at least on the Cooper. You will also need grease... as Sherill said, marine grease is good. The amount you get with a new bar may not be enough, and if you're doing an S to a Cooper switchout, (which as I gather is happening) you'll not be getting grease with either bar or new bushings I believe.

HTH,

James

Is it just me but if someone's MCS bar is going in a MC is that MCS getting a new bar? Otherwise both cars will need to be in parts in order to do the bar swap. Therefore require 2 jacks and 4 jackstands

To all those helping with the rear sway bar installs...check out this new thread by agranger. It has a video on how they installed some sway bars at an install party they had.

And to anyone who is still not sure about coming to this event....its not all about installs or photos...Its mostly about hanging out, eating, and enjoying each others company. (In fact, there are still several people who are not coming that I would still like to take some MINI/owner portraits of. )

Funny

I just came here to post the link too.

Would the air tools make a big difference? I wouldn't think there are THAT many bolts involved. If one of the parties involved is from down my way, has a extra driver, and wants to drive my van... Well, the compressor is going to be loaded in the van already for another task for Sat or Monday.

I wanna drive the MINI. I just got it back and wanna motor. But if the impact wrenches are needed badly I GUESS I could bring the van myself, but I'll likely pout.

The air tools might help on a stubborn bolt. Although a good breaker bar helps too. But then again doing the bar is in a tight area....damn rambling.

Anyone have a small tool compressor? Mine's a 21 gallon and won't go in the convertible.

Oh, and I'm bringing cameras too

All I'm bringing is my food thing (which might end up being some sort of pineappley thing), my pop-up, hammock, and the video setup if anyone wants to do anything with that.

Anyone who wants to run some video bring some miniDV tapes as I'm fresh out and probably not going to make it to a store to buy more for a little while.

Otherwise I figure I'm going to lay back and relax and enjoy the show of people sweating over changing out some sway bars.

Mark,

Granted, I've not done a dozen of these, but no, I wouldn't believe the impact wrenches are necessary. Nice? Sure, but it's not gonna hold up the show if you don't bring the pneumatics. A breaker bar should be sufficient for starting any stubborn bolts.

The only time I wished I had air tools was in dealing with the upper strut bolts, and only because there's not a lot of room to get a good swing on a ratchet, so your arm does get tired.

Ok

I'll just bring all my drive extensions then in case they help with that hard to reach one. I've got the usuals plus some long and REALLY long ones. Unless someone pipes up to say they've got a small compressor to bring, I'll leave the impact wrenches and air ratchet at home.

We will take both the cars out of the garage and put ours in it. Gee come to think of it, the garage will seem HUGE with our little babies in it!! And there is a very nice screened in porch, as well as a very large house!
I'm still hoping that the rain will hold off for the night like last night..what a show!!!

Well, it was a big show down at Sibley. The light show was pretty amazing. Maybe it didn't get all the way up to you that strong. Or it was probably doing something crazy like just staying right over the hospital and surrounding area and calling all the pregnant woman to come to labor and delivery....that was what it felt like I HATE storms like that...
