Any suggestions for our next driving event
Any suggestions for our next driving event
G'day all, now that the B&B IV has now happened I am now looking for what we would all like to do for our next event... Ok for next event I will have a GPS so that we shouldn't get lost... haha (or rather not too lost). So I should be able to lead us with your confidence that I will not make too many U-turns.
We have the Go-kart event coming up soon so I would suggest we could do this either before or After that. I am in the process of rounding up the PHILIMINI's to see if we could do a joint run ... more info to come soon !!
The club routes that we have on file are:
Roads and Rails Route
Icecream Run (manasa VA)
Winchester Family Drive In
Smores (Overnight Run)
and ones we have just done:
Backroads & Battlefields
MINIs by the Bay

Don't forget the Spring Fling! Although the thread didn't have that title, that is what it was called... here's the thread on it from last year:
DCMM Sunday Drive & Brunch - April 24 10:00am
Bruce's (mty_mini) post, #28, is where it was called "Spring Fling" and has a link to route directions. They even made Spring Fling clings, I have one on my MINI.

Well where ever we go, Jay and I will be able to find OUR way!!
We just got a Garmin! It is really cool, nice and small for the MINI! StreetPilot c330. Now I just have to figure out where to put it!
But whatever we do, where ever we go, can we finish a run?
It seems the last two I've been on we never got past lunch...

I've done a lot of exploring around the area of the Ice Cream Run. There's some great roads. I'll have to throw something together so we can considering it.

More MD runs....seems to me that the VA ones are lacking

I'm still trying to find time to plan out what I'm referring to as Five GUys East. Basically it was the same idea as the Manassas Ice Cream thing except in MD. Once I get enough free time I'll start working out real details.

Steeple Chase in Hunt Valley (Baltimore) ?
Val and I were thinking of this last weekend.
We meet at MINI of Towson, and drive to four other points. The other points are spread in sort of an X pattern across the Hunt Valley (MINI of T would be the bottom left of the X). The end point (one of the four), would be a place to eat. The other places would be marked on a map with an address or crossroads. Except for the start, all points would be a secret until the driving started. No internet usage allowed for the event.
The point would be to get to all points with the shortest mileage, not the shortest time (avoids pressure to speed). The GPS might help, but skill in selecting routes would be more important. We'd try to find at least one point that the GPS would not be very good for, say one that had a road closed. That might kind of equalize the event for those without a GPS.
Each point would be someplace (with a toilet) where "corner workers" can wait to stamp the mileage sheets for each car.
This way we are not just riding along behind the car in front of us, we can get some fun roads in be selecting check points that would lead us to them, and we'd see MINIs coming and going the whole time.
We could do this in VA too. Just need someone willing to do it.
Sound like fun? Let me know and we can start hunting down places for the checkpoints.
