CooperCops.. good idea.. Is it easy to remove when not needed? Or do you plan to keep it on for a while?

I only intend to put it on when we're driving relatively slow. I'm not concerned about it flying off, but don't want to put continuous tension on the antenna.

To remove, cut the 3 cable ties. Of course, we'll have to carry a supply of ties. Also, found that the flag wrapped up will fit inside an empty paper towel roll. Plan to stow it in the car.

great idea! Glad someone thought of another way for it to go. Modding the pole as is----you need a hair dryer or heat gun to heat up the plastic and bend it so it fits in the boot. I will take some pictures and post them when I am home (at work now!) so you can see how we did it. I think it only took Jay about 20 min to bend it or something like that. The other thing we did was to put a couple of holes in the flag and zip ties through them to hold the flag on the pole. At the time, I couldn't think of any other way. But gromits are a good idear!

So, Scavenger, based on your great idea, I went to Home Depot and got a threaded rod that'll fit into the antenna mount. It's 3 feet long (too long), so I need to trim it up. This idea might just work.

I also found grommets/eyelets at Jane's in Seven Corners. I called Michaels and the didn't know what I was talking about.

So, flag with 4 pairs of tiny eyelets, a couple of nylon nuts (to help keep the flag from moving), a threaded rod and some cable ties.

The one worry I have - is it a big deal if I screw in a metal rod where the antenna goes? The antenna is just a piece of metal wrapped in wire and rubber, right? I've got this vision of me driving around a mobile lightning rod just tempting the fates of the angels!

Thoughts?

I haven't done this myself, so I would caution you to research this before you break anything. You might even find something about antenna removal here on NAM. Good luck, and if you get it working, some pics would be great!!

Happy Motoring!

No worries, no attribution if I dork up my car. How much damage could it do? (just kidding)
