MNEEME was Harmed

So I don't understand why people have to be so inconsiderate about what others have. As some of you know I had a Motorized Wind Up Key (Link to video of it: Click Here! ) on the back of my MINI. Well today I was in Giant and then Starbucks no more then a 15 - 20 mins. and I come out to find the Wind Up Key missing. The Key was ripped completely off the back of my car. The Key is gone, the frame for it is gone, and the license plate frame is also gone and the sockets the screws attach to are gone. The person COMPLETLEY RIPPED IT OFF! GONE! Everything. I called the police and made a report. I doubt anything will come up but who knows. I'm hoping I don't have to get new plates though cause the person or persons took the rear license plate with everything. So I guess you just really can't trust anyone now these days. And what even more interesting is what is on my license plate, they are FOP Tags. Fraternal Order of Police! And they still ripped the sucker off. So I don't know if I'll get another one or not yet. We'll have to see.

So...Are you going to tell Scavenger "don't get so wound up about it" (past participle of "wind" or past tense of "wind" as: he wound the clock. Glad english isn't my second language)

Sorry MNEEME - couldn't resist (guess I'll put on my windbreaker and lick my wound)

Thanks

Thanks Everyone. I'm just hoping I don't have to get a new license plate because the rear one is floating around out there.... And now I have to get the license plate framing and mount fixed. ARGH! But hey I'm sure they'll get something back in return for this. Maybe I'll get lucky and see it on another car around. HaHa But Thanks Again Everyone!

That "wind up key" is hilarious! I've never seen anything like it.

I just can't believe someone stole it from your vehicle. Hopefully they didn't do any additional damage when trying to remove it (from the video I can't quite tell how it was attached). Sadly, I doubt someone will try to mount it to their vehicle, the idiots that did it have probably already thrown it in the trash somewhere

Reminds me of when the jerks at the car wash stole my external EZ-Pass. But that was just a minor annoyance and $30 to replace. Your Wind-up key was a really neat piece of equipment. Are you planning on replacing?

I can't believe that. My brother was just telling me the story last week that he saw your MINI with the winding key, and wanted to take a photo of it while going down the road. He said it was one of the funniest things he had seen because it was actually turning.

Sorry that people suck so bad. If you have to get a new tag get: PEPL SUK

That really really bites. I'm sorry to hear that someone ripped you off.
I have to say, I've been running into a string of bad luck w/ my Mini - the fender benders, the parking tickets, the toll booth tickets (which by the way, I paid the tolls -- I have a Smart Tag), someone keyed my car, and I hate these darn floor mats (why can I install them correctly?).

If someone starts a Mini yoga group, sign me up -- and MNEEME too.

No I can but I love whats on 'em now "MNEEME" and I'd imagine if I might be able to have that plate anymore due the fact there is one floating around out there somewhere. But I can replace them but I love "MNEEME"

Thanks Again Everyone!

I don't know about your state in particular but I think you can get a replacement via the DMV with no problems - you probably should report the plate stolen to the police too though.

Well I did call the Police to report the incident so I'd imagine they took note that the plate was stolen. And Good I sure hope I can keep my plates.

Matt, why wouldn't you be able to replace a plate that was stolen? I am not understanding... Contact your DMV and find out your options...please let us know.

I tried to find the info for you on the VA DMV site but to no avail, it has less on it then the CA DMV site from what I can find :( The best I could do was the form to apply (http://www.dmv.state.va.us/webdoc/pdf/vsa10.pdf) so it seems like you'll need to call or go there for specifics on replacement.

The CA site has this info and how to replace a lost/stolen plate:

"Duplicates are made to replace personalized plates and some special plates. If both personalized plates are lost or stolen, duplicates with the same configuration cannot be issued. You must apply for another configuration or you may apply for regular series replacement license plates."

Happy News!

YAY! I just got off the phone with DMV and they said I can keep the plates but when I get pulled over they will come up as stolen but they are on the right car and I do have the registration for them so I'll be good. And I don't think someone will really try and use one plate. They said I can keep 'em or get new ones. I decided to keep 'em! I don't mind if I get pulled over as long as its just for the stolen plate!

And Thanks for the help eVal!

Happy to help So glad that you can keep your plates and that the ugly incident wouldnt take that away from you on top of the wind-up key.

Oh Buddy, that is the worst thing to happen to the BEST kind of accessory. Jealousy is a sad, sad thing indeed. It was probably someone who drives a Chevy Compensator and is trying to continue his high school bullying by picking on someone smaller than he.
What a waste.
Well, I hope you can replace it because it was about the coolest accessory I have ever seen!

HaHa Probably, darn big bullies! I'm still trying to decide about replacing it. I think I will but I'll remove the screw mounts/fastners and use some heavy duty bolts to keep it on the car and reinforce the mounting holes a little so if someone does pull it won't mess up the lid.

I am happy to report that the little guy (my mini) was returned from the body shop to me this afternoon...good as new :-) Just so you know, I took it to Specialty Auto Body in Arlington -- they've done all the body work for all my accidents. I recommend them if you need a referal. They detailed it too :-)

Along the topic of mean people...someone took a key to the rental car I had while mini was in the shop and I had to pay for that! I'm not allowed to have nice things, I guess.

So went to MoS to get it fixed today but that didn't turn out so well. When the person ripped the key off, they made the holes for the mount bigger. So now they just spin when you put 'em in. So I had to buy a the frame and plugs to try and fix it myself. So I tried some Gorilla Glue and let that sit for like 5 hours or so and the little devils still spin. So I'm just going to buy some bolts and nuts to mount the frame with. And hopefully that'll work!
