Anyone (experience preferable) want to help me install a swaybar before lunch? It's pretty warm this weekend, and I don't want to pay $300+ for a shop to install it.

I'll even buy ya lunch @ the lunch!

Not too late...yer on the list, mate
OK..list closed...I'm calling them with a head count. I'll add 2 extra seats JIC.
This is going to be a working lunch, folks. While I love to hang out and yak with the best of them, I really want you all to put thinking caps on. This is not an event, per se, but an effort on my part to get dedicated help for the club.
That said, if you want to chitchat and hang out, please do it after the lunch, ok?
Also, please leave egos at the door. If you make a suggestion or have an idea and it falls through the cracks, so to speak, do not take it personally. This is not a contest, competition or race. There are going to be over 20 people and I may not get to open discussion on every single idea or suggestion...unless y'all want to have dinner at the same restaurant
So..please..if your particular reason for being at the lunch isn't validated, don't sulk, k?
I will do my best to have thorough discussions on all valid points, so be prepared to take notes and pay attention. I will bring paper and pencils.
See you tomorrow!

Thanks for coming, guys! Just by showing up, you all have shown that you're interested in helping out. That's very gratifying.

We got a lot of really great ideas. Paul and I are still working on the data collected. We'll post our findings within the next few days.

Implimentaion of the ideas is going to take time. Commitees need to be formed, the Board has to be contacted and possibly meet to go over some of the ideas, etc. So, I hope your enthusiasm doesn't wane over time. Things will happen, just not as fast as we'd all like. The rapid approach of the holidays doesn't help, either. So please be patient.

Again, I'm really pleased with the turnout.

Katie,

Sorry we didn't make the lunch. I was still recovering from pneumonia. I know it is kinda early to start thinking about it but I would like to help out with the MOTD4. We already have reservations at the Fontana Village and plan on being in there early Thursday.

The Results Are In!

On Sunday, November 6, 2005, 25 members met to have lunch and discuss what theywould be interested in doing and helping with. The club now has over 200 membersand the Board is challenged in maintaining the value to its members and sustaining ahigh level of enthusiasm. Up to now, much of the activity planning and execution hasbeen done by the Board with some suggestions coming from the members.

In order to learn more about what interests the membership and to recruit a higher member involvement level, the club had lunch followed with a thinking session at the House of Dynasty restaurant in Alexandria. The Board President, Katie Williams leadoff the session with an appeal for help at next year’s Tail of the Dragon MINI gathering since DCMM is one of the major organizing clubs for the event. Katie then turned the session over to Paul Evans, who lead everyone thorough the session.
A thinking session is a structured exercise designed to generate a large number of ideas and thoughts that are played with and winnowed down a manageable number that size the attendees can get behind and help with. The session starts with each participanttaking 5 minutes to write up their ideas on blue slips with one idea per slip. Blue slips are 2¾ X 4¼ sized slips that are used in landscape orientation. Participants place a keyword in the upper left-hand corner to indicate the general category of the idea, then writes a short description of the idea in the area below the key word. We asked the group to think about ideas pertaining to the club’s activities and operations. Then participants paired off to discuss each other’s ideas and writing-up any new ideas that spring from their sharing. Next, each person takes their partner’s ideas along with half of the new ones and finds a new partner to pair-and-share with. The team pairs select the four best ideas from those they discussed and then present their top ideas to the other team-pairs at the table.

All of the participants at each table work with all of the top ideas at their table to choose the four best ideas at the table. Those ideas are then posted on a white board where each person votes for their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd top choices. The attendees did terrific work. In the first 15 minutes, 117 ideas were generated! At the end, 13 ideas were posted as the top ideas. The results follow.

Results Discussion

It is important to remember that none of the ideas above should be considered “losers”. Even though one idea wasn’t chosen by anyone, it was still considered the 13th best from 117. Also, the ideas above are shorthand for a more detailed expression of the idea. As for those above, the average score is 10.23 and the standard deviation (for those who just have to know) is 6.85.

I saved all of the idea slips for future reference.
So, now we should try to implement the top 3. Any takers?

Great work by everyone that was there - katie what should be our next steps to implement the top five choices? Or do we need to start setting up sub-committees?

Sorry again that we couldn't get down there for the meeting.

Noticed "member directory" in the list of ideas. When we start printing the membership cards, we may be able to help with a directory also.

Questions:

1) Did we find a volunteer to follow up the unpaid registrations? See my earlier post.

2) Were committes formed? If so, who are the chairs ?

3) Is Bruce still in charge of the WEB Site? How soon can it be updated with new photos?

4) How do we structure the IDEA of a Committee into a reality? Votes from the Board only of from all members?

Sorry for all these questions, I cannot clearily understand the numbers next to Working Group? Ideas? Again, I apologize but I am not a stat. person and I cannot really understand what all those numbers mean.

1. Kurt volunteered, so chat with him.
2. No committees yet...I think the board needs to approve the creation of them. There's no way to have the entire club vote on them, it'd take too long. What I'd like to do, is pick a chairperson and then allow them to choose their own committee.
3. Bruce is still in charge of the site, so any changes will have to go through him.
4. Contact Bruce about posting photos.
