Not A Good Day

Lets see how should I put this... I got in a wreck. Rear ended someone. Front is more flat now. And the air bags came out too. I wondered where the cover on the passenger side went when the airbags deployed but I didn't think I would ever find out. But now I know. Atleast I'm alright! But its all being taken care of. Tow truck picked my MINI up and took it to Ashburn Conclusion Center in Sterling. Not sure what the estimate is yet but hopefully it isn't too bad. But to top it off. I headed out with my dad to his work and theres a house on fire. So we stopped to help them out. Man one heck of an exciting day... Hopefully things get better. Sorry about the bad picture quality its a camera phone.

Bummer!!! Sorry to read about this - glad you are okay though

If it's any consolation, WE got rear ended in Scooter and had Ashburn Collision do the fix - they were awesome!!!

That sucks. Small consolation, but at least it wasn't a much bigger accident with much more comprehensive damage! I'll be curious for you to show me (us?) what happens to the cover when the bags deploy, even if you just point fingers at it and describe it.

~Thanks, did they do a good job and did it take forever?

~I'll be willing too! I wish I had an actual camera with me like I usually do. But I know how it looks so I can show you. You would think the plastic covers blow into your face but they don't! Learned from experience!

It could have been worse....

At least it's just the car. Take my word for it, as I've spend 9 months in a wheel chair recovering from an accident..... Cars (no matter how dear) can always be replaced. Legs (and other bits) can't....

Glad everyone is OK, and count your blessings!

OUCH! Sorry about the boo-boo, MNEEME! Glad you are fine...be sure to see a doctor and get checked out, even if you feel good today. Internal injuries can sneak up on you!

Thanks and I have. I know I'm lucky it wasn't worse and sorry about your accident. I know a car can be replaced but a person can't.

Glad to hear everyone's ok.

Damage doesn't look too bad on the outside. I wonder how the bumper skirt held up. Now would be a good time to consider a new grill style or aero-kit, since new parts are going to be needed anyhow. Any damage to the bonnet other than the grill? Looks fine in the pic.

Accidents happen to the best of us... I hit someone at 3 mph, because we were both at a stop sign, I was behind them, I saw the car take off, I idled forward looking left and right for oncoming traffic, not realizing the car in front of me had stopped 3/4 passed the limit line, and I tapped her bumper. She was perfectly fine, but her dad (who wasnt at the scene) claimed she was injured, and had already made arrangements for her to go to the doctor and get the entire rear of their accord replaced.

Long story short, $1800 in damages w/ injury went on my record. My insurance went from $700 a year for 2 cars & 3 people on my policy, to $4000 a year for 1 car (94 V-6 Camaro) and 2 people. Accident was 3 years ago, and my insurance is still about $800 every six months.

Awww Matt I already talked to you last night about it, but it still saddens me to hear both you and your mini were in an accident. I'm just so glad you weren't hurt badly! "I wrecked..." wasn't something i wanted to come home to

I don't know why, but I read that twice as "I wish you closed liver".

Maybe I'm becoming dislexic in my decrepit old age.

Both have computers. No online whoopings? A little counter-strike or BF2 action maybe?

It would be better in person, you can't give a real big hug online

They did a fantastic job - it took close to a month - only because there were NO parts in the US at the time - so we had to wait for them to come by boat...

Today Is A Better Day

WoW Thats all have to say! Insurance has already sent the check over and Ashburn says it'll take 3-4 weeks! Sounds good to me! I'm having a better day, yesterday wasn't this good... Oh and I noticed how much I of a difference I drived after the accident. Today I keep my mind on the road and didn't zone out or whatever I did to hit that guy.

I was about to go into 'lecture mode' about keeping your eyes on the road, but by now, I'm sure you heard enough from your father, and second, I did the same thing when I was younger! Luckily, I was in my familys' old minivan, and I didn't cause any damage to the other vehicle, so no action or report was taken. Our minivan, however, had some very minor front end damage. Oh well, I figured, my parents will never notice. Wrong!! The second my father got home, I get a very loudly asked 'WHAT HAPPENED TO THE VAN?!'. I told him the story, and I couldn't drive for a couple weeks after that w/o him in the car! Like you though, lesson learned!

In any case, I'm glad that it looks like that it'll all work out, and everything will be all fixed soon enough!

(BTW, when does the Dairy bar close for the season?)

The damage to you car does not look all that bad. Hopefully the car is streight and the new parts will just bolt on.

First saturday in December is our last day. And we open sometime in March depending on the weather. And I've already been lectured at by my father but it wasn't as horrible as I thought it would of been.

Yea more or else my car mainly slide under his rear fender. I did bust the radiator cause I was leaking anti-freeze.

How much of that 6 grand was for replacing air bags? $6,000 seems like a lot for that little bit of visible damage. On the other hand, I had a Porsche 911 C-4 that got tapped in the front by someone running a light -- I saw the car coming and stopped in the middle of an intersection, so I was standing still when the ancient Mazda hit me. No air bags going off and I drove the car home. Not hurt, thank heavens, but the damage cost the other driver's insurance company $18,000 (!) and repairs took four months. Sold the Porsche 6 months later and, of course, took a bath. All well in the end, however. MCS more fun to drive and with 220hp package, it's almost as fast. Besides, it has a trunk -- oops, a boot -- that holds more than a water bottle.

I'm not exactly sure how much money is going to each thing. When I found out I'll post it up.

Oh and yesterday my dad told me that the Insurance Adjuster was at Ashburn before the tow truck even arrived! The Insurance Adjuster was waiting on MINI! FAST RESPONSE???
