Lambo MINI doors

G'day MINI people..

I have just got some Lambo MINI door hinges (yes I know I have money to waste).

What I would like to know is "any recommended places that I could take my MCS to get them put on....?" I have tried a few of my favorate places and they were not able to do it.

thanks in advance

OMG You and I are on the same page. I want those hinges so bad . Did you find a place that made a kit that fits the MINI or are they universale hinges?

Lambo hinges

G'day there,

Yep I got them specifically for the MCS.... I will post the web site of where I got them from later...... but yes I think it would be cool to have the lambo doors, they were more expensive that what I would of expected, but WTF mate, you only live once..... (I think around $1700)

Want to do the same thing on one of my MINIS. Let us know how it works out with some pictures of the install. It would be great to try to get the pictures as it is being installed. And of coarse where you got the hinges.

!!!

Hope you checked the reviews. There's more than one company out there making them for the MINI. One was a name like DHA? but word was they are light duty and their struts are used in a upside down position that made them prone to quick failure. Seems they were judged good for show cars but not daily use. Also the amount the door opens varies quite a bit from one kit to another and some make it quite difficult to get in and out!

Lastly, be aware the MINI's hinges are welded not bolted. So it's not a bolt out bolt in conversion like many are. The old hinge stub needs to be ground off and new holes drilled and tapped. I.E. the MINI lambo door conversions are NOT easily reversable...

That said, sounds like fun and I think they'd look awesome on my covert!

Just do a search in the exterior mods forum on lambo, and here's a page for a kit with photos of what's involved...

http://www.autofashion.co.uk/bmw_mini.htm

I'll see if I can find the thread here, there was a thread on MINI2 as well.

Crap looks like I won't be doing Lambo doors on my car unless someone else pays. Also I would like to know it was reversible and this setup isn't.

None of the MINI ones are reversible...

I believe, because the stock hinge on the MINI is welded on, whereas on the Hondas and such is only bolted on, thus easily replaced.

Now, if the key fob could not only put down the windows and top, but then open the lambo doors you'd have something! ... I think they were called Transformers...

It's all a little too... showy for me. Reminds me of the rice-boy mentality, with coffee-can farting exhausts, massive wings and "performance stickers".

Perhaps I'm biased that way because I've seen a bunch of those cars with doors like that... but I tend to go for subtle over loud, and those things are ANYTHING but subtle!

I agree with you, sir Edge. I mean, on Lambo's the Lambo doors look great. But to have them put on a cute little Mini or even Civic or Escalade or whatever, seems a bit too much. I just never understood it, but hey, if it makes you happy, then cool. Good luck with everything

I contacted VericalDoorsinc.com once and they said they don't have a kit for the MINI. Just a universal weld on kit.

Check the yellow pages for auto customizing. I found a company
that installs lambos one day when I was motoring and saw several
cars parked outside their shop with them. You may also want to
find a sport-compact car show. There are usually a couple of cars
in these with lambos - ask around where they got theirs installed. Plus
you get to see examples of their work.

Did you get the hinges from the company in England?
Good luck - share some pictures when finished!

where to get done...

If all else fails, in fact my favorite way would be going to the asian car gathering near the Euro East thing Rockville. It's in the SPorts Authority parking lot. Or look for a local 'import tuner show'. Ask those that have em and look at how the results of the job seem. Nothing beats seeing the shops work.
