What are the safety requirements for the event? i.e. helmet, gloves, driving suit, etc.

John Behe will be there Saturday, possibly with his SSG (SCCA Showroom Stock G) race-prepared S. His son is planning to run on Sunday.

Ickypoo. I'd much rather buy a helmet than stick my head into a frequently used one.

something tells me helmets aren't necessarily required. After all this is a driving school, not a racing school. At least that's how they are billing it.

If helmets are required, Michael and I will bring our motorcycle helmets so we can avoid this issue

Sunday MM2

Hi folks

I've had my convertible since October but this will be my first Mini event. I'll be happy to pay my dues or whatever. I've signed up for Sunday and plan to stay overnight Saturday. Anybody recommend a hotel in the area and/or anybody else already booked in anywhere? I'd love to meet up with people before the event.

I don't think they'll be letting the convies on the track. They had a MCC at the paddock last year but it wasn't allowed on the circuit itself.

We won't be going, as it turns out, because my bachelor party is that entire weekend and none of my buddies drive MINIs. Time for new friends? Plus, @ $160, we're going to put that toward another HPDE in the spring after things have settled down a bit (wedding Oct 1). Apparently you can stretch $160 (plus gas and hotel) pretty far when it comes to diamonds and wedding bands...

that would be surprising since my friend has a honda S2000 convertible
which is tracked at summit fairly regularly.

Looking at Summit's schedule someone is on the Shenandoah and Main track so that leaves the Jefferson open.

I would strongly advise to have your brake fluid flushed.
I don't know about this event but helmets are generally required for event insurance.

A lot depends on the event insurance and track. At VIR rollbars are required. track rule. The insurance the BMW CCA uses, require rollbars.

And I, too, would be surprised if MCCs are rollover-equipped similarly to an S2000.

Whoa folks! Misinformation!

You're going to scare off potential attendees with conjecture! If you'll review the thread you'll note convertibles ARE permitted at this event. It's a driving school run on the track and I specifically had this clarified with Towson when I called and registered.

Well then, I certainly don't want to stand in the way of any convertible drivers who want to attend! Thanks for correcting me...but having gone last year and seeing that the MCC was NOT allowed on the track then, I thought the same would go for this event. Shame on me for jumping in w/o reading

Hopefully they'll have another MM next year without the $110 price hike. Whoops, more conjecture that might scare off yet another potential attendee!!!

Yup...

...Believe me, I will be re confirming when I go up for the tech inspection. But Gina went off and asked while I held and came back with a answer of no problem...

Well, if you look at the MINI timeline you'll see that the convertible was just released for the 2005 model year. So the MCC you probably saw at the last driving school was the one promo model that Towson was given/had. My guess was that they were the ones who decided that it wasn't going to be on the track. I would imagine that they would want it in the best condition possible to drum up more interest for the upcoming convertible.

Wanda and I will be there as well, on Saturday. Tell James it's not my fault!
