Auto Up Windows For your MINI

Folks,

While I am sure many of you are aware of this product, some of you may have missed it. Ian Cull has invented a little electronic curciut board that installs between the togle switchs and the factory multi connector for the switch panel that will allow you to "auto Up" the windows in the car. This is a really usefull feature for toll booths, Guard checkpoints, and picking up the mail. Partiicularly if it is raining and you have a manual transmission, you wont have to chose between shifting and closing the window. Just flick the window switch twice and the window will close by itself. The thing costs about 40 bucks (depending on other options (DSC "Track mode", and garage door opening available), and comes with full instructions on the installation. Depending on the options in your car it will take nothing more complicated than removal of a single screw and 15 minuets to install.

Without going into a lot of detail here, this Mod does not "hack" any MINI systems, will not damage the window motors, and requires no permanent mod to the car. Check here (http://www.gbmini.net/MINIcircuit/index.shtml ) for more details and purchasing links.

Wow! Glad I saw this post. I've been wanting to get this circuit. I'm so tired of disabling the DSC everytime I start the car. According to Ian there's only 40 left... well, now 39.

Thanks people

I was trying to understand why I had a sudden burst of orders today - now I know!
BTW, Tonto - I refunded one $4.50 shipping because putting two into one box is the same cost. And they will be shipping tonight ...

With the way these are flying, I just ordered one too. I don't deal with tolls, security or many of the things advertised as a reason to purchase. That said, I still think it is a great idea, the price fits too! One of the least expensive mods you can do.

You are right ... last week was calm (only shipped 9) so I thought my stock would take me to the end of the year; but for whatever reason (this thread clearly being part of the trigger), I shipped 9 on Monday, 3 Tuesday and 7 today!

The discussion at home is "how long can I maintain my resolve" when I have none left ...

Ok! Since it sounds like we won't be able to buy these little suckers in the future, I just ordered one as well. With so many DC Metro MINIers buying them, how about a Tortilla Factory lunch/install day in a few weeks? Maybe on a Saturday or Sunday once everyone gets theirs?

Well Ian I hope I did not ruin your plans to stop making these. But Man when a product is good, its hard to be quiet about it. After all I am a member of MCMM and I owe it to the club to point things out when I see them.

So when do you plan to do your next production run?

Reguards
Phil

PS - I use this thing at least 15 times a day. What a great mod.

Greetings.

Ever since my trip to the UK, driving around right-hand drive MINIs with one-touch windows, I have wanted this feature. Seeing GBMINI's site, I did the Paypal thing a few days ago and just got the little circuit board in the mail. Installation was a breeze, did it tonight, in the dark, and the rain! I was able to get the whole thing installed in less than an hour, and that included removing my little widget dish and bluetooth speaker between the console pillars! Bonus! I was able to clean up the bluetooth kit wires as I had the cover off underneath the Window Switch Panel. Everything worked exactly as Ian's instructions explain, which I read twice and followed slowly, step by step. And now? I have driver and passenger one-touch up windows! For only about $40, this is a neat idea.

Now for my very niggling complaint... I used to have the 'Open the Blast doors' feature, where you push the unlock button up and hold it... windows roll down and sunroof opens, and pressing the winged button on my MINI key would do the same thing. These... are gone now! Bummer. Thought you all should know. It makes perfect sense of course, as the unlock/lock switch is used to toggle the circuit board programming mode, and probably can't be made to do the convenience opening as well. That and my sunroof and windows are one-touch open anyway, so three taps of switches and away they go. Still, I will miss the MINI key windows/sunroof opening... it was like the MINI was exploding in happiness, knowing that it was about to go for a drive.

As alawys, everything one does often has trade-offs. This particular mod, I feel the trade-off is worth it, since the windows and sunroof can be made to close by simply tapping on each switch. Ian, a future version of the board might have a total one-touch solution... double or even triple tap the unlock/lock switch and everything opens, or closes! Now THAT would be really cool!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, please do join us on December 11th for the Annapolis Festival of Lights Tour... I'll be at Starbucks early demoing some new 'toys'!

Thank you.

However, the MINI circuit should not be able to have affected the behaviour of the auto down functions ...
When you use the key remote, holding it on unlock to open all windows, the MINI circuit is not even powered.
And the '04 and later MINI feature where you hold the door unlock toggle and everything opens is actually been reported as a nuisance when setting up the MINI circuit - because it does it while you are enabling the auto-up features.

Did you perhaps recently visit the dealership, where they might have reprogrammed your car and removed the feature?

That install was soooOOOOOooooo0000000OOOooooooooo EASY!! I have a lot of dark room experience so I am used to finding things without seeing them, popped out the little tray deal, reached in unplug--plug--maximum of 10-12 minutes, and now my finger is lazy and rested once more, no more holding up the toggle for me
thanks Ian

Installation of the Auto up did not affect my "Key Fob" window/sun roof opening at all. I would be surprised if it affected yours as the switch panel (and hense the Auto up circuit) are not involved in the process initiated from the key ring.

Ian any comments?

Tonight, my stock is just about totally gone. But, at an increased cost, I have purchased parts for another batch so there will be more in a few weeks ... please contact me via email if you want to be notified when there is more stock.

Hmm,
Thanks Ian. My other auto-open features were working before installation. I wonder if the connector isn't quite pushed in all the way. My regular lock unlock funtion works fine and the one touch down windows are also working. My car is quite old, a February 2002 model.
