Pulley Party?

Randy Webb of Webb Motorsports (aka RandyBMC here on NAM) is looking to have a pulley party in our area the weekend of November 13th. Exact time and location are currently TBD. Either Randy or myself will post an update once the details are hammered out.

Randy's website is www.webbmotorsports.com I'll freely admit to not knowing a lot about pulleys and such, however per his website he uses the Alta pulley and explains why up there.

What exactly is a pulley party? Also, we have the Roads & Rails cruise that weekend on Saturday... maybe a Sunday (brunch?) event so we could do both?

check http://www.webbmotorsports.com/forum...topic.php?t=56 for a detailed answer.

I had Randy install mine in March @ the original Richmond PP. Great time, and one heck of a guy that Randy Webb.

I'd be willing to bring tools and help people install springs, swaybars, exhausts, camber plates, short shifter, control arms (all of which I have done at least once with the correct tools), whatever Randy doesn't have the time to do. Of course, you can still order the parts from Randy but he's usually booked solid unless someone bails and he has extra time to fill at the party.

I've warned Randy about the Saturday event, and requested if possible to do it on Sunday.

Pulley Party: A mass installation of supercharger pullies on Cooper S's (Sorry Cooper owners, no supercharger, no pulley). You have to purchase the pulley, and there is probably a charge for the installation. From my understanding, they are just as much a social event as a technical event.

Richmond Area Pulley Party

http://www.rivercityminis.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=105

The River City Folks have also been trying to get a group together to do this. They need about three more folks to be able to confirm their dates.

If you are in the greater Richmond area, you can jump over to their forum on the link above and check it out.

But back to our event, so will Cooper owners be able to come out for the socializing part? And, we should try to avoid Saturday unless it could be done late on Saturday afternoon perhaps in the Mt. Airy region - then the event could end (with lunch at about 2:00 pm) and folks could make their way over to this event if interested.

Why don't we plan for a different weekend since your drive is the same weekend? Maybe November 20,21 or November 27,28?

The pulley party is a bunch of MINI owners gathered to "improve" their MINI through installing a smaller pulley on the supercharger. Usually, several Cooper owners attend as well, just to hang out. We often have a BBQ or pizza and tell lies about our driving adventures too.

I can install intakes, throttle bodies, pullies (duh), spark plugs, plug wires, coilpacks, intercoolers and ECUs at a pulley party. I have been known to install exhausts and swaybars at a slow party, but don't usually.

Here's the breakdown on costs:

Pulley and installation - $400 flat cost
Denso IK22 spark plugs - $65 (no charge installation)
Kingsborne plug wires - $75 (no charge installation)
Nology plug wires - $150 (no charge installation)
Pilo coilpack - $75 (no charge installation)
Webb Motorsports throttle body - $459 + $85 install
Alta BIG intercooler $840 + $85 install
Webb Motorsports/Powerchip ECU $690 (no charge installation)
Webb Motorsports/Unichip ECU $735 (no charge installation)

Any of these products installed will be warrantied through Webb Motorsports, including any issues with related parts, for 2 years/24,000 miles.

Check out the pulley party thread, which will eventually have the schedule and location, here:

http://www.webbmotorsports.com/forum...opic.php?t=508

Hope to see you all soon!

Kind of interested in new plugs... also been thinking about a short shifter. Any thoughts on which is a better choice for a first mod and what each does to my factory warranty? Do you do short shifter kits, Randy?

I'd be willing to journey down to Richmond or do it here.

I would be interested in the short shift kit as well.

Well, now inquiring minds want to know, who's interested in a Pulley Party either the weekend of Nov 20 or 27?

We'll be out of town for Thanksgiving, but I'd only come out to socialize anyway...

I'm on my own for Thanksgiving, so either sounds good to me! Don't have much money for major mods, but I would enjoy something small & good company (as always!).

Sounds like something I'd be interested in. If it werent for my garage being a total disaster, I could host. That still could be an option though!

We are set for the 20 and 21! Now we need to nail down the location. We already have three or four willing participants. About the short shifter - it takes me at least an hour, and to do it in the garage without a lift is a pain, so it will totally depend on where we host the event.

I like the Alta, and they are coming up with a kit that will allow the use of the factory ****, so there really is no reason to use any other kit now, except the Helix because of ease of installation. The Helix would still take a good bit of time, because any short shifter involves removing part of the exhaust from under the car, and the heat shield under the car.

Take a look at the schedule for the pulley party here:

http://www.webbmotorsports.com/forum...opic.php?t=508

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks!
Randy

Randy,

I am also interested in attending. Would like to have the pulley done along with an intake and plugs/wires. I'll check your site later today about ordering parts, etc.

I'll get true "confirmation" from my fellas (in Richmond) - but it looks like we have at least 5 confirmed thus far including myself. I'll get them to sign up on your site Randy.

Perhaps we could do Saturday in DC and Sunday in Richmond.

3neMini---Just commit to it and pay for your pulley there, that's how I did it. Unless so many people have backed out and Randy's been stuck with the parts - then again he moves a lot of stuff so I doubt he wouldn't be able to sell a pulley or intake at another party.

For anyone considering suspension/short shifter/exhaust I'm just outside of Baltimore and will work for pizza and beer (provided the Red Sox at least TRY to win some games, otherwise it's gonna be LOTS and LOTS of Jack Daniels).

Deb---IMHO it depends on what you want out of the short shifter. If you want less throw but the same shifter height, go with the helix kit. Otherwise, Pilo makes what is essentially a B&M short shifter (true short shifter - replaces entire shift rod) that is cheap and works very nicely. I like my B&M but it's sooooo much easier to install the shift rod extension a la helix or mini mania than to replace the entire shifter. ALTA makes an adjustable short shifter that runs about $180 from JSCSpeed. Nice piece from what I understand.

Also, no real need to upgrade plugs, even with a 15% reduction S/C pulley. That's money better put toward suspension upgrades, unless you don't plan on doing any. That said I waited about 4 months AFTER the pulley install to drop in the Denso IK22 iridium plugs. So no, I didn't feel like I NEEDED them, but I wanted them and the price was right.

BTW short shifter addition goes well with a new exhaust b/c you have to remove the header-to-exhaust bolts and the exhaust mounting plate to do the short shifter.

Have fun y'all. Wish I could be there but I'm a groosman in a wedding up in Western NY on the 20th so there's no chance of making it Saturday and almost none on Sunday, either.

Oh you guys will have so much fun!! Congrats!

I'm a three time veteran of Randy's Pulley parties. He's like doctor Frankenstein, going all over the country creating monsters!

Remember to show Randy some of the more interesting non-tourist spots around the D.C., NVA, MD environs. (After he's produced his magic, of course.)

DC Area Pulley Party with Randy Webb

We currently have four people signed up for the Nov 20/21 Pulley Party and we need at least six to get Randy to come out. He can handle up to twelve installs on the two days.

The location is still not finalized, but it looks like Richmond has a place. If there is someone who could host this closer to DC that would make it easier for the MD/Northern VA folks.

Randy's posts on this thread give more details. You can go to his forum to get more information and to get get your name on the list with a reserved time.

Possibility of doing this at Electrodyne!

I am on the phone with Chet of Electrodyne to see if we could host the Pulley Party at the Electrodyne site in Alexandria. We could get some drinks and subway subs and maybe have a little tech session as well!!! Chet will let me know what he thinks.

*UPDATE* Pulley party in Richmond

Hello all -

As Randy Webb just made a firm decision to come to Richmond rather than D.C. to do a pulley party the weekend of November 20-21, Chris (RedBaronF2001) and I have offered up my one-car garage for use during the party. I live just off I-295 and will most likely host the party. If you are interested in having Randy work on your car, sign up now and we'll see you soon! I think Saturday is mostly full but there are plenty of slots open for Sunday.
