Attempts at stealing my wheels...

Well I knew this was going to happen sooner or later, given the fact that I bought expensive wheels and live in the freaking barrio/PG county. Came out this morning and noticed 1 lug nut and one of my wheel locks gone. We had heard some commotion outside late last night and squealing tires, etc but didn't see anything. Those things don't just fall off and I would have noticed them missing since it was the front driver side wheel that was tampered with.

So I feel that the only thing I can do now is remove my anthracite 16" SSR Type C's with the yokohama summer tires and go back to the crappy stock wheels and even worse runflats. The bf suggested just running the SSR's for track events. We don't have a garage here and our area is pretty notorious for car thefts and break-ins. I usually have to park out on the street or sometimes in our driveway but it is completely dark out there (the county won't put up any additional lighting either, so we're going to look into installing our own additional lighting).

I'm pretty pissed off and bummed. It sucks to feel like you can't have anything nice around here without someone trying to steal it or vandalize it. I knew that the SSR's were popular (esp with people who track their cars) and the bolt pattern unfortunately also fits Hondas and VWs..... sooo, I no longer feel like tempting fate. Such a shame...they made a world of differece in how Ambrosia feels and especially looks

Wow, sorry to hear this. Glad the dirty thieves didn't succeed, at least. And there was no damage, was there? Do you have an alarm? Would a motion sensing alarm go off at something like that?

Either way, like I said, I'm glad you still have your wheels. Hope Ambrosia recovers quickly.

Thanks Ambrosia will be fine...but she certainly doesn't want to go back to her old shoes...lol.

No damage to the car either...few scrapes around the lug nut holes but nothing else...thankfully!

I have the MINI alarm but that thing doesn't do much! I'm sure it has a tilt sensor and would go off when they had to finally jack up the car to get the wheels but that is too late in my opinion. Not sure if I should go ahead and invest in a better after market alarm...I'd really rather not mess with all that wiring, etc and I doubt any alarm is going to be 100% effective anyway.

We've had our previous cars almost stolen (96 impala ss - luckily one of us walked out and scared them off because they almost had it, we ended up having to move the car elsewhere because it was such a target) and broken into here so that might be the best thing for now. The wheels were a big purchase for me so I can't afford to lose them

Well it really would stink if you have to take off the stuff you love... Aren't there special locking lugs that can be used?

I think that is your only choice. They have targeted your wheels and they'll be back, and your wheel locks were no obstacle.

You might feel better about your stock wheels if you get non-runflats (or use the tires from your SSRs).

That sucks!!!
If you're going to install additional lighting suggest a very bright light pointing to the front of the car on a motion detector. It would make the bad guy think you heard him pull up and not provide additional lighting to help him with the task. A helpful side bennie is during winter you path to the house would be lit. A dog that will yap at anything in the yard is one of best deterrents.
Again, I'm very sorry to hear about the incident.

There is a car that parks at the same garage I do that must have one, because whenever you walk behind the car, it sounds. However, I will note that most of us ignore it now and it becomes like those car alarms you hear all the time and just ignore as background noise.

man, that totally sucks. I don't mean to be flip, but have you thought of moving out of the den of thieves?
John's advice about the lighting sounds like a really good idea...where one light is good, 2 would be better.
I'd loan you our dog, but he's about as vicious as a wet noodle.
I'd offer storage to you too, but we already have 6 sets of wheels stuffed into our garage and basement.

Wheel locks are a joke (I have 'em too) they are just something to slow the criminal down. The alarm will deter them and hopefully alert you in time to call the coppers.

A few months ago Leona got up at 1:00am and thought "I should lock my car" before I go to bed. She always forgets to do it, but it is a pretty beat Honda CR-V, no real prize for a thief. Anyway, she goes to the front door and blindly sets the alarm (the front door has no windows) the alarm chirps to indicate it is set, then suddenly goes off. She opens the door to see a guy running down the street ! He had been in her car when she set the alarm, he moved and it went off, we called the cops and they actually caught the guy within 30 minutes. He had not taken anything but left a rosarie
! go figure.......I'll bet his pants needed changing though !

I'm glad I have my S-lites, love the look plus Honda's would look silly with them !
