Adding stripes

Has anyone had a local shop add sport stripes for you? I plan on talking to Solar Solutions in Laurel about tinting but do they do stripes as well? (suppose I could call and ask...)

I haven't ordered the Mini yet, so would I be better off adding the stripes to my order and having the dealership take care of it?

Thanks!

Speed Design in White Marsh will do stripes, graphics, etc. Carlos (SolarSolutions) may or may not...I've never asked.

Depends on whether you like the factory stripes. It's probably the simplest way to get the job done, but your design options are limited.

I do like the looks of the stock sport stripes, but I would like to have the stripes extended down the front of the bumper.

FYI, DCMM sort of co-hosts an event where Aesthetic Creations comes out to Solar Solutions to do vinyl work. We set aside four days and people sign up for a time slot. You basically order the materials in advance and you bring your car to have the vinyl installed. Last year it worked out pretty well and we will be doing it again this year in October. You just need to make sure that Aesthetic Creations can do exactly what you are looking for.

I don't have any details as of yet, but will be providing info soon. If you can wait until October, that might be a good time to do it.

If you want them extended you're definitely better off going somewhere else. Some dealers may have arrangements with local vinyl cutters for custom work, but the factory stripes are pre-cut and they're only as long as they have to be to cover the hood.

You might want to check out the selection available from some of the NAM vendors -- lots of designs out there to choose from -- and then (if you don't want to put them on yourself) maybe take them along to the Aesthetic Creations event for installation.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I'll order the stripes myself from a vendor and have someone 'install' them for me.

Would you say that the quality of the aftermarket stripes (and installation) would look as nice and last nearly as long as dealer bought/installed?

Thanks again!

From what I've read it seems like the factory stripes and most of the aftermarket stripes stand up well. The most trouble I've read of seems to come from stripes fabricated by the guy at the local sign shop -- I guess they don't always last so long, but they're also super cheap and you probably drive away with them already installed, so go flip a coin. If you stick with stripes from any of the NAM vendors you're likely to get quality, multi-year material.

I highly recommend going this route, these guys did my stripes last year and they are simply fantastic. If you cannot wait for an install event you can always order your stripes from them and get someone else to put them on.

FYI - if you want to check out Aesthetic Creations, there's a link in the "DCMM's Useful Links" thread (sticky, above).
