Annapolis July 4th Parade
It seemed that no one was organizing the DCMM Annapolis 4th of July entry. So I did a quick Google and have the entry and am faxing it in this a.m.
There's a 10 car limit for a car club.
Cars MUST have some relevent decorations to the 4th... per the city of Annapolis.
RSVP in the DCMM calendar if you'd like to participate. Be SURE that you'll do so as we're limited to 10 cars and we don't want 5 maybes that don't show and prevent folks from participating.
--------------------------------------------------
I got the letter from Annapolis accepting us for the parade. Here's a pdf of the letter with route details etc.
The highlights:
We're in.
We are in parade position #13.
I'd suggest we gather at Annapolis mall at one of the outlying restaurants. I'll check with my folks in a hour or two as to what's there.
We'll leave the mall area at 4:45pm
Line up to begin on Amos Blvd at 5:00 pm.
Parade will begin at 6:30 pm
The route will be in the next post in the pdf in a couple hours.
ALL vehicles are subject to search for security.
Units are NOT PERMITTED TO STOP to hand out candy or anything. Doing so will have us barred from future parades.
There will be a 8:00 pm concert by the Naval Academy's Electric Brigade Band at City Dock.
Fireworks at approximately 9:15...
RSVP here in the DCMM calendar

The date is um... July 4th...
The rest of the info I'll pass along when rec'vd. Keep in mind I just submitted the application yesterday. It'll take a few days to get the package. Will let everyone know when I know.

Thanks. Don't know if anyone else thinks so. No one has signed up for either parade! Oh well, party of one!
Updated first post with the info and a pdf file of the complete route info etc.

Thanks for taking the lead on this.
We are still trying to decide what to do on the 4th. At least, now, the Annapolis parade is one of our options.

After the Mardi Gras parade in Clarendon, I think I'm paraded-out. I particularly don't want to subject Dr. P to the bumper to bumper, 1st gear, clutch-slipping high temperatures that are likely in Nap-town.
I WILL be there, however, to cheer you on!
Parades are ever so much more fun to watch from the sidelines, especially when there are so many worthwhile dispensaries of ice cream and fermented and distilled adult beverages close at hand. So avast, me hearties! See you next Friday!
Mark,
My thoughts echo Ed's.
Manny trannies and parades don't mix.
I feel bad enough for Otto when I get stuck in traffic. I won't deliberately subject him to that kind of abuse.
If I had an auto tranny though, I'd be there.
I would like to thank you though for all the effort that you put into the planning.

Now you're just trying to scare people off...
I've never 'slipped my clutch' in doing a parade. If it's too slow for idle in first I stop for a moment.
As to 'see us Friday'... We'll see, if people sign up. Without more participation I might be better spending my day on boat maint. I've got a bunch of family coming down from PA the weekend after for the Alexandria fireworks which we watch from my boat, and have some work to do to prepare. An extra day to prep would be handy.
Oh well, we'll see. I did my part for God, Country, and DCMM!
If we can't get a few cars together I won't take it personally. It seems like most of the active members are in northen MD these days.

Y'all need to get your clutches checked. Seriously I've been driving sticks for 30 years and it shouldn't be an issue. Of course if you feel it's hard on your car then don't go... by all means
But I don't understand how parade stop and go would involve slipping the clutch to any significant degree. Do y'all put down major rpms and slip it till you're rolling like starting up a hill? In a parade I don't even touch the gas usually, just smoothly engage the clutch and roll off. Every time one engages the clutch of course involves some minimal slippage as it engages but is minimal and I don't understand how it's different than normal driving wear and tear. Now if one for some reason adds gas, slips the clutch, then brakes 30 feet later for some reason, well that'd do it I guess. I'd be glad to offer advanced classes in driving a stick to 'those' folks.
It'll improve mpg's too.
But I would not do anything I thought was abusing my car either so I understand, sorta, sideways... So hypnohealer, you going to treat the car right and abuse your body instead with the "fermented and distilled adult beverages close at hand"?

I'm amazed that more DCMM'ers aren't signing up for the parades! All you people have these amazing and fun cars that you love talking about and being seen with. What better place to have people both enjoy and admire your ride?
The clutch argument is a bunch of horse-pucky! A parade is no worse for your car than a commute into or out of DC in rush hour. Your well built MINI should have no problems at all. Don't be scared away from joining in the fun of these great events by a couple of guys who are enroute to winning the "longest surviving clutch" award in MINI history.
Parades are great! The crowds! The Kids! The good looking women! (OOPS, Did I write that?
)
Go for it!! Load up your car with a bunch of kids! You'll be laughing and enjoying yourself while creating memories you'll be able to enjoy for years!

Two years ago the gang had me lined up at the front of our group so I could watch the belly dancers that were to be just ahead of us in the parade. Alas we got rained out that year.

Plus, as an entrant you only get to see what's immediately in front of you, and there are several entries in the parade that I really want to see (especially the Monumental City Fife & Drum Corps). Mostly I was feeling guilty about not joining you, especially after you put in so much effort to make it happen, and since I live 15 minutes outside of town. I wanted to at least offer a rational reason for not participating.
So yes, I do plan on a tiny bit of self abuse (no wait, that sounds wrong), ingesting something of an adult nature while I watch you and hopefully other DCMM members showing off your detailing and decorating skills. I wish you the best of luck and hope enough other DCMMers RSVP to make it happen! You're going to have a terrific time!

I think I should have just said I don't like stop and go traffic, especially when it's hot, and left it at that. I think it puts an unnecessary amount of wear and tear on the car, and on me!

I have great tolerance for the stop and go 'cause I really don't deal with it much in my commute. Yea, I'll miss seeing the parade but I'll get to see the girls along the entire route.
Self abuse... Too easy, I'll let that one go by.
[quote=FeedBack;2330167]!
To be correct women were literally jumping in the Purple MINI and taking pictures ... I know it was such a sacrifice for FeedBack ...
almost as bad as MMatarella and the belly dancers..
sad to see a MINI tradition (after 4 years) ending ...

i am extremely interesting in doing this, esp since i do have an auto, and gosh knows i can make the decorations work with this purdy red paint
i just never know whats going to happen with my schedule, and i'd hate to sign up, then not be able to show for whatever reason
we all know that I'm a tad flakey sometimes
*cough* indian food lunch *cough*
