All things Music
Had a discussion going in another thread regarding 80's music and errrr "styles"
Here's Missing Persons "Rock and Roll Suspension" which really is a good example of Terry Bozzio's (Jeff Beck, Zappa) true background. The sound engineering on this album is really good stuff, especially with the equipment of the early 80's.
I put the music to a MINI slide show

Pat Travers will be at Jaxx on Friday, December 12th, along with Stephen Pearcy, Britny Fox, Swirl, and Fuzz Box. I must admit, I only know Pat Travers, but I will definitely check out the other bands. Plus, it's only $20. www.jaxxroxx.com
Britny Fox was a hair metal band very similar to Cinderella. Again, IIRC they did "Girlschool" and "Long Way to Love".
Swirl and Fuzz Box have me stumped.

I've decided my life needed a change so my Christmas present to myself is a new Bass guitar (Ibanez GSR200FM). Fairly inexpensive but rated highly, really nice looking with the blue sunburst finish. I haven't touched one for at least 20 odd years, so I'm looking forward learning and playing alongside Leona and my buddy Jack.

Wanna play it? I have it. Well, not exactly. I started with the GSR 190 starter pack. Essentially the same, but the 200 has some upgrades. I don't know what the FM stands for, maybe that's just what the name is. I do know that it has a different fretboard, which I assume is better, and a BOOM ****. That's the smaller one. I assume it is a bass booster of some sort, mine doesn't have it. But it did come with a little paper label on that **** that said "BOOM." Dunno if it still does. Anything that says BOOM, especially on a bass, has to be a good thing.
Honestly, it is a really nice bass. Considering it is somewhat of a starter bass, it is amazing. It's like calling a justacooper the "bottom of the line." Technically, it is the bottom of the line MINI, but, you don't like to say that because, it is an amazing car. Bottom of an amazing line is still amazing.
I believe with that bass, although I haven't seen the price in years, that you are getting more than you pay for. I would venture to say it is the best starter bass out there, but, I haven't really played the other ones. I can say that you will not be dissapointed.
I can teach you Aces High.

Everything you said is what I found out when I researched buying it, plus back 20 years ago I played around with an Ibanez and really liked the feel. If I get real dedicated the first thing will be a nice amp then perhaps a more expensive guitar.
Let me get going and then we'll hook up ! First, I really want to work on the surf stuff first, just love the walking lines. Then perhaps mad man stuff like Steve Harris

I remember when they first played this on MTV, I lost my mind!!!
That was back when they'd play it in the afternoons right after I'd gotten home from school - we'd listen to it (and then Whiplash by Metallica) to get pumped up and then go skateboarding! Those were the good old days

haha. That was awesome.
As for CSS, I'll check 'em out tomorrow at work.

BTW, I don't want to get anyone too excited, but, I was checking out Jaxx's page, and, at the bottom of the calender, there is a section that says, "stay tuned for these upcoming shows," or something like that. Well, It may or may not have said MICHAEL SCHENKER!!!!. I'm just saying, you guys may want to check back from time to time. jaxxroxx.com Of course, I'll probably be checking pretty frequently, so you'll probably hear it from me. They also said to check back for a UFO date, and, oddly enough, Loudness. Apparently they kept making albums. One came out this year it seems. That should prove to be an interesting show.

Apparently I do know of them, but I didn't know it. Off the hook is in Forza Motorsport 2, a racing simulator for XBOX 360. Not really my style, but definitely not bad. I can easily see the appeal. I actually kinda like it, but probably not for the same reasons as an actual fan does.
Scavenger - Great for getting me going this A.M.
got flying to do !
D- Yeah Schenker has gotten back with Gary Barden and Chris Glen (ex SAHB) both ex-MSG originals and possibly drummer Ted Mckenna (ex SAHB) They have released a new album and just finished an acoustic bit. Back in October when I was in Jolly Old England I was cheezed to find out that Gary and Michael were playing with the Scorpions in Newcastle ! Ugh ! There was no way to get from London to Newcastle and still make my flight home the next day, that would have been awesome !
Here's SAHB, that's the Sensational Alex Harvey Band, not sure who was first Zappa or Harvey but kind of the same feel, complex "comic" rock zaniness. Love these guys, very original.
and here's a really bad video of the new MSG with Barden and Glen (Bass) The video is proof that the best sound in the house is at the mixing desk !

Can't believe I missed this topic
I was just watching Mr Brownstone from Rock am Ring 2006, it was a pretty good performance, but Axel still looks off...
Right now I'm pretty heavy into this song, 1:40-1:46 really reminds me of Vancouver (first heard it as the Canucks goal song). I'm working on covering it, but only got a proper distortion pedal a couple days ago so can finally do the good stuff... and I'm still thankful for power chords replacing barre chords in rock

Crowd Chant by Joe Satriani
Mininav, one part sounds quite a bit like a part from Rush/2112
Satch is awesome, been listening to him for a long long...long time !
Here's a song I want to learn
and since its the holiday season, here for your viewing please...Los Straitjackets and the World Famous Pontani Sisters

Good ol' Joe. I saw him with G3 at Ram's Head last year I believe. Pretty cool, but I honestly preferred Paul Gilbert's performance. I can't remember which bass player, other than Dave LaRue with Petrucci, blew my mind. I don't know if it was Paul's or Joe's, but I wanna say it was Paul's. I saw him do a sweep, on the bass. And he was just all over that bass.
Anyway, Joe is awesome.

Figured I could jump on this thread for a little self promotion, this is about music, after all...
If you're interested in catching a live show come check out my band, The Roustabouts, this Saturday 12/20 at the Zoo Bar in DC (on CT Ave across from the main National Zoo entrance). We start at 10pm and play mostly blues, with some rock, funk, soul, r&b (the old stuff) thrown in to round out the sound. I'm the lead singer and transport my gear (the PA, speakers, and assorted alt-percussion pieces) in my Chili Red '02 MCS!
There's no cover/door charge and the drinks are not overpriced like every other trying-to-be-too-trendy-for-its-own-good DC bar. It's a great little blues dive bar, so if 12/20 doesn't work for you and you like blues, this is the place to hit in DC. Every weekend they've got something good on Fri and Sat.
OK, that's all. See you guys around!
