[Sun, Mar 16th @ 10.15am] St Paddy's Day "Parade" Run
If you're interested in buying your own (good idea if you plan to be an active member and participate in a lot of events), you can get a very nice set at a very good price at your nearest Wal-Mart store. I recommend the Cobra MicroTalk radio (sorry, don't see a model number on it).
For now, don't worry about it. There will be several people at the event Sunday with an extra radio. Besides, you'll be riding with a MINI owner this time, right ?

Actually, any brand work fine, as long as it likes what MiniNurse's said before.
Might not be too many clean cars there on Sunday. Forecast is calling for rain from Friday through late Saturday or maybe into Sunday morning.
Two local stations this morning, Channels 2 and 13, were calling for a chance of rain/snow mix on Sunday.
Blech !!!
BY THE WAY, FOLKS.... still looking for a volunteer to sweet and one to ride in the middle and repeat the turn directions !! Anyone ? No newbs, please.

Oh well, it's going to be a great day for the Irish.
Of course, we still need at least one veteran to handle radio duties in the midst of the pack, err, parade. Much easier if you have a co-pilot. Any volunteers?
That being said, I have a surprise guest riding shotgun, flying in straight from Ireland just for the event. St. Patrick himself has agreed to grace our presence with his own. Those of you in the Mardi Gras parade met his evil twin, Dr. Psycho, who scared away most of the children from getting too close
Sadly, he wasn't able to defend himself against the surprise attack of pink silly string that entangled his hair
And he's stated that he'll opt to avoid all future parades that involve driving slowly through hordes of indigenous inebriated inhabitants
Reposting this was an excellent idea! If last years experience provided any clues to learn by, I suggest they would be:
To bold and color and re-emphasize this point: Keep the MINI behind you in view.
This will prevent "group separation anxiety" from setting in.
In addition, if there are more than one driver/navigator that is familiar with the route, then two smaller groups are probably a very good idea. Create a "fast" group and a "scenic" group.
I'm really wishing I was there to join you all.... I hope you all take and post lots of pictures.

Event Participant Information
- The event organizer should arrive at the event at least 30 minutes before the first attendees are expected.
- Come with a full tank of gas.
- Arrive in time to attend the driver’s meeting – typically held 15 minutes before the first cars leave. Help the event organizers by being ready to leave at the start time.
- If the route sheet was posted in advance, print it, review it and bring a copy with you.
- Have snacks and water in the car
- Definitely bring basic car repair gear in case of a problem.
- Bring your FRS radio and be sure you are on the right channel (7 sub 21)
- Drive at the pace you are comfortable with. Accept that people drive at different speeds, both slower and faster. Allow for this. Do not tailgate or attempt to overtake other cars. Be courteous to fellow drivers. If you want to drive the route at a faster pace – move to the back of the group. Or, you can make plans to drive the route again at your own pace another day
- The lead MINI will establish the pace for the route. Keep the MINI behind you in view. Make sure you wait for the MINI behind you after a turn/junction/crossing or other route change. If the MINI behind you slows down, slow down to keep pace. If each car does this, the group will stay together.
- Use your turn signals to indicate upcoming turns for others in the group
- Turn your headlights on, but leave fog lights off unless driving in adverse conditions or at night. Rear fog lights on early model cars can easily be mistaken in spirited driving conditions for brake lights and could case an accident. The lower rear fog in 05 and later MINIs can be equally distracting to those behind you.
- Bring enough money to handle the posted fees, if any.
- Remember that no event will ever be perfect, and try to roll with the punches.
Woohoo! 108 hours to Go Time.
I volunteer to help with radio middleman duty as well if you need a backup/extra. I've been dying to try out my nifty new radio setup, which should work very well on both reception and transmit.
Cheers.

so I'll gladly accept your offer. So I have my Middle Man and my Sweeper all lined up. Weather is looking okay for Sunday. We're in good shape.
You all just remember to wash those MINIs after the rain on Saturday. Get up a half hour earlier if you need to. I want to get some good pictures and clean MINIs make for better pics !!!

And don't forget to decorate your MINI for St Paddy's Day !!
. Half the time, Eric's telling me what to say! Sure, I'll be a middleman relayer if you want, but I see that there's already a volunteer. I'll try to keep quiet during the run

We might need more than one radio relay person, and you're great on the air! Pretty terrific in person, too
