Cracked windshield
Cracked windshield
My windshield is cracked and I need to change it, 2 tickets so far. I need one with the rain sensor.
Where could I do it that doesn't cost and arm and a leg
, so I don't want to go to MOS.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Next Step-Change insurance
I am on my second windshield, but luckily noticed when I first bought her, that they run in excess of $400 for the part, I got the windshield coverage with no deductible on my car insurance. Mine is with USAA, but there are likely others, too. When I got the second one, I got to insist on original MINI parts. Nothing better than a clean clear windshield. Make the change. It's not a matter of if it's gonna crack...it's when.
Check your cracked windshield very closely. I used a magnifying glass and could not find a stone chip. It was replaced under warranty about a week before the warranty expired. Also, I would highly recommend buying the glass coverage... it doesn't cost very much and you'll get your windshield replaced without a deductible. I called my insurance agent and they were going to replace it before I did the close-up examination & took it to the dealer.
If it's a stress crack it should be under warranty. I've had two replaced on my 06MCS because of rocks. I think they inject something at the factory to attract rocks. At least that's my theory. Try Safelite, they replaced both of mine and did a good job.
Do be careful of who you go to! Make sure that they know exactly how to change windshields on a MINI.
When I bought mine, the person who owned it before took it to somebody who had no clue what they were doing which caused me to have to replace it because of a massive leak, the people from before destroyed almost all trim surrounding the windshield including the A-pillar covers, the roof drip moulding (had to replace the etire piece running to the rear of the vehicle, not just what appears to be a front section) and the top windshield cover.
If you do go to somebody who works with minis but only replaces glass, you may want to go to the parts portion of your dealer and pick up some extra A-pillar clips (part no. 07147145753) to have on hand (in case they break while being pulled off) and the "top windshiled cover" (part no. 51317155304) it is the little rubber lip/flange at the top of your windshield between your roof and windshield. It tends to get cut when they are removing the windshield.
Just thought that you might want to know!

yes that is what it seems........... I got a price from the, I'm going to check out MOS and see what they say. Thanks!
Proper install choice-critical
Agreed-Make sure you have MINI authorized and experienced installers.
I had one guy who came to my house, popped the old one out and put the new one in. He was done in less than an hour. Very skilled & very careful.
Funny, they came with the wrong window initially, since the VIN indicated no rain sensing wipers, but apparently, they typed it in wrong.
