HELP: VA MCS owners and property taxes

HI
I own a 2006 MCS coupe and my car taxes went UP this year. I live in Fairax County.
Has this happened to anyone else in VA. The people at the tax dept are being very helpful but apparently the book they use to assess values has no value listed for a 2006 MCS coupe.

I bought the car in OCT 2005
for 3 months of taxes for FY 05 I paid $67.08 (this would be a 12 month rate of 268.32)
for 12 months of taxes for FY 06 I paid $266.47 (about two bucks less)
for 12 months of taxes in 07 for a 2 year old car Fairfax UPPED my assesment to $417.24

anybody had this issue and resolved it?? It is only a month to go.
Thanks.
LB

Yes, we have the same issue in Arlington. We have two MINIs - an 03 MC and an 04 MCS. We are paying more in taxes now than we did in 2005. My understanding was that thecar tax repeal has been partially repealed and so we are now paying a greater percentage of assessed value.

Good thing our 1988 Ford Bronco now has NO value.

We are not bothering to fight it because compared to our real estate taxes, the MINIs are NOTHING.

i think arlington had a rate increase up to 5 bucks per 100 in value. my two suburbans went down in taxes but my mini went up. fairfax county said it was because the mcs (without JCW) has no NADA re-sale value for 2006. and if you go to http://www.nadaguides.com/
it is true, you can't get a MCS 2006 coupe value
so am paying more than the year i bought it.
which just seems wrong.
thank you Jen!!!!

I just got my Loudoun Cty statement today. We get bill bi-annually. For my '06 MCS, I owe $145.04 (50% of annual + $25 sticker). Rate is $4.20 per $100 of value minus 63% paid by the state. Stated value is $15450....guess I lucked out

It's a rip-off! The problem is that NADA does NOT take into consideration that most MINIs are loaded, and only list 'a la carte' options. Most MCS are equipped at least with Sport Package and Premium Package, adding a minimum $2,600 to the MSRP. That is irresponsible and neglectful, because it inflates prices for both purchases and trade-ins.

"Nigel" is a MCS, with few/minimal options. The assessments were as follows:
2004 - new
2005 - 22,155 (I challenged it and got it reduced)
2006 - 16,531
2007 - 18.150

I have written and made telephone calls, no one cares. I did receive one initial e-mail about my complaint and requested a follow-up call. Nothing.
Nada. Zilch.

I just looked at mine and YEH! it's 417!!! I'm sure that's more than last year, I'll have to check though. They have the Description as 06 MNNI - so MINI is spelled wrong, so how do we even know they've got the proper information?

Mine for Fairfax County says my 2005 MC (or 05 MNNI as they say) has an assesed value of $16,710. With "tax relief" my bill is $252.00.

Not sure what it was last year, but I think I posted somewhere here on NAM about Fairfax vs. Loudoun county.

The Hubby about flipped his lid when he received his taxes on his 2007 Shelby Cobra GT500. A couple, yes couple dollars lacking the big ol $1000.00 mark. So now I get to tell him that the Mini's is going to boil him also.:impatient

Interestingly, mine (Fairfax County) has bounced around a bit:

2005 (partial year of ownership - 9 months assessment): $219.34
2006: $401.24
2007: $288.80

As far as assessed values:

2005 (again, 9 months assessed value): $18,900
2006: $22,120
2007: $19,150

The key is that the car tax relief only counts for the first $20,000 of assessed value. Any amount above the $20,000 mark is assessed at the full rate. I'm glad my current assessment is under that, even if I've spent way more than $20,000 total on the car.

you guys are lucky!! you should see the property tax rates in RI.

I just paid $258 for 2 months of 2006 on my M roadster. Not looking forward to the bill for the full year of 2007 next year! ;(

I'm expecting $1000 for the first full year with the MINI.

Hmm - that's $1548/year. What was the assessed value of the M roadster? $40,000? Higher?

I'd actually bet that VA rates are higher... but yeah we do have a significant percentage of relief for the first $20K.

Sympathy for the NOVA's

Wow... Im sorry you guys are getting hit so hard... not sure what mine is going to be here in NC yet, but I am sure it isnt gonna be close to most of the ones you have listed.

I find this interesting because I lived in VA and worked for the legislature the year they adopted the "no car tax" relief bill...I left shortly after for NC... I can only assume it went the same route as the "lottery for education."... sell one bill of goods, deliver another.

went back and looked at the bill, and it was actually $235 for 46 days... so it is really $1865 for the year. :impatient Could not find the assessed value on the invoice (since it is leased, BMWFS gets billed and pays the tax, and then charges me, so I don't have the tax bill that has the assessment on it.)

My city charges $42 per thousand of assessed value. It varies from city to city, and some others in RI charge as high as $76 per thousand!
