[Sat, Aug 4 Meet 10AM] Backroads and Battlefields Fundraising Drive

Let's get together and do one of our favorite runs. Backroads and Battlefields! And this time, it will be for a good cause.
One of our club members- Wolfman- works for the Washington branch of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and has requested that we do a run to help raise money for that foundation.

We are asking that each participant donates $10 (or more if you like) that will go directly to the CFF. Let's help!!

The money raised will be going to the Metro DC Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. From there it will be used to support local Cystic Fibrosis (CF) care centers by helping to provide educational materials to patients and their families or to fund research to find new therapies and drugs to treat this disease.

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that:
  • clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and
  • obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.
When the CF Foundation started its work back in 1955, the average child with the disease did not make it to elementary school. Now the average lifespan is almost 37 years old.

The Foundation is one of the most efficient organizations of its kind. In 2006, nearly 90% of every dollar of revenue raised was available for investment in CF research, care and education programs. The National Institutes of Health and many prominent publications, including Forbes and USAToday, have heralded our innovative business model, which fuels drug discovery and development programs.

Our Mission statement:
The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a nonprofit donor-supported organization, is to assure the development of the means to cure and control cystic fibrosis and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease.

Awesome - I've missed B&B in years past (with the entire group, anyway). I'll make this if I can. TBD... so much activity going on with work lately.

I have it, I just dug it up... the original PDF that Paul! posted back on 06/01/2005 for B&B III. Unfortunately the link he posted doesn't work any more (probably because he's no longer using *** Communications cable Internet). I'll send it to Alan and anyone else that asks for it.

If we do DO clings, I've got a different idea. The old design (although likeable) is getting a little redundant on the car; we need some new pazzazz!!

What time is this run anticipated to be done? I'm not sure we can make it due a prior evening commitment.

Honestly I am not sure when it will be done. But you can always leave after lunch. I sent a PM to Wolfman asking about timing. Hopefully he will be able to shed some light on it. If I remember last year, we left after lunch, we got home around 4ish. But we didn't leave for the run till noon or something like that. We are planning on leaving a couple of hours earlier this year.

I grew up knowing two kids that had CF. The older boy made it to his late teens, and his sister made to her early twenties. They were the only children of my mothers friends..very sad.

Paul! and I will not be able to attend this event because we will be in Florida. I would still like to contribute to the fund. Could I still get a cling? Both Paul and I have motored this route before.
