Share your police experience

Well i have my mini 2 weeks now and got pulled over 2 times, posted stories on the forums got bashed from a few people..... MiniCoopers are definitely a police attention grabber!!!!

I'm almost positive more than half of us got pulled over for different reasons even if its not something we did but because of cops. Share your stories i wasn't sure if there was a post on this but lets make a new one.

P.S - those of you who feel the need to play a parent or complain please DON'T just share your stories.

-1) Cops don't care about your Mini, they have more important things to do than worry about what brand of car is on the road. Ones personal vanity over their car doesn't translate to anyone else, let alone the police, caring. Does anyone really believe that the cops come out of roll call, put their seat belt on and say to their partner "Let's go harass a Mini owner today for no reason."

-2) your use of cops only shows your ignorance and invalidates any argument you may pose.

-3) I suspect you are young and when you grow up you'll learn that those cops you seem to hate so much are on the roads to make sure that you and other people with small children in their cars make it home safe and alive and are not killed by people acting like idiots in their cars and trying to show off when they don't have the maturity, brains or proper driving experience.

I've had my license for two years and have been driving the Mini that whole time. No policeman has ever given me a second look. Sounds like YOU have the problem. GO TO A TRACK TO DRIVE FAST!!! (That's what I do and it's worked rather well)

New Jersey Motorsports Park is pretty close. You could also manage Mid-Ohio. VIR is my home track; it might be a bit far for someone in NYC. If you join NASA you can do their HPDE where you can learn from an instructor for your first couple of events. You'll meet a lot of nice Mini owners at whichever track you choose.

I've had a cop warn me to slow down by just pulling along side me in the Mini and motioning at me to slow down while on the tollway. The "dic*head" cop then went and pulled over an SUV about 30 seconds later that wasn't paying as much attention.

I think if you are driving irresponsibly, then you'll get a ticket regardless of what you drive. A Mini is no more a cop magnet than any other vehicle out there.

And cops are only "dic*heads" to those that generally deserve it, IMO. You can't expect to get more respect than what you give, afterall... And Dimi's postings in this thread are a prime example of that so far. Cheers!

You are absolutely right. It's always someone else's fault.

I apologize DIMI. After reading your articulate, concise and grammatically correct opinion I fail to understand why the police would ever hassle you or give you a ticket.

"Does anyone know of a mini forums were i don't have to put up with people like this?" That gives me an idea: Perhaps I'll ask the cop next time if he knows of any neighborhoods where I don't have to put up with cops like that?

Every time I've been pulled over in the mini, the cops were very nice. That said, some are terrible. The easiest way to find them is to drive an old car that has not been restored. The bad ones will pull you over in order to fish for things to take you in on. I've had a cop waste a half hour of our time asking me questions when he pulled me over outside of his jurisdiction. The reason he pulled me over was invalid, and I explained this to him. I was not nice, and did not get a ticket.

Buuuut, if he writes you a ticket, he most likely at least thought he had a reason to pull you over. If you don't think so, go to court and find out. 90% of the time that I've been pulled over, I've gotten a ticket. 90% of the time, they're just doing their jobs. I'm nice, they're nice, and everybody's happy. If you got a ticket, he probably wasn't doing it because he didn't like your mini.

RESPECT
When posting, both members and vendors must ALWAYS be respectful of fellow members and vendors. Personal attacks, trolling/baiting, deliberate antagonizing, and flaming will not be tolerated. If you feel you are being attacked, report the post or private message rather than replying or flaming back. However, do not use the report bad post feature to "cry wolf" when you are in fact the instigator of the demise of a discussion. Doing so will result in an infraction or strike.
