All Terrains for your R60

Hey all, creating this post to show a tire size I haven't seen fit before. I had done a lot of looking but couldn't find confirmation on this size fitting. Up until now the largest tire I've read fitting is 205/70/16 (27.3" x 8.1") and I went for a 215/65/17 (28" x 8.5"). These were my goals:

1. Biggest tire possible
2. No cutting fender plastic
3. Stock suspension
4. Stock wheels (17" split spoke)
5. The tire must be an All Terrain (MN winters and I only wanted 1 set of wheels/tires)

The winner.... 215/65/17 Falken Wild Peak AT3

It's super close but it fits and it doesn't rub. My (wifes) car: 2012 Countryman S auto/FWD (totally stock) Next up is to coat the stock wheels gloss black. I think it looks pretty badass

Thumbs up

Here's the updated look after powder coat. I'm pretty damn pleased with the results.

Hi BRG04, so you are saying that as long as the tires are these dimensions (28" x 8.5") or less it will fit in the wheel well of the Countryman All4S? I have turbo 18" rims and currently the car came with Goodyear Efficient Grip (runflat) 225/45/18. Very stiff tire. Its 37 degrees in Northern California and this tire feels kinda stiff, like a hockey puck.
I called BigOTires today because I wanted the:

GEOLANDAR A/T G015 225/55R18

...the Technician was truely flipped out about this... 'it will affect your speedometer (tire size increases speed?), too big for wheel well, etc.' He was a little more comfortable with a 225/50/18 but not much because that isn't manufacturer recommended size.
So a 235/60/18 also should fit. Correct?
I also found a FALKEN WILDPEAK A/T TRAIL 225 /55 R18.
These all have a smaller overall diameter than your stated size of (28" x 8.5").

I would love to know this also. Now I have a 2019 CMS and it came with 225 50 18 and there’s a world of gap I’m trying to fill also. I think as far as the height goes it’s as simple as measuring the height you have to see what fits. I think it’s the aftermarket wheel offset et35 or 45 etc that pushes the wheels out or in that affects rubbing but if you stick with the 45 you can adjust with spacers. I think. I would love someone to post the biggest tire and offset that could be used. Now according to this op he has stock et with biggest dimensions so you should be able to take it from there.

When you start changing the width like a 235/60 i cant guarantee it wont rub. Basically a 28" tall tire is going to fit with a stock wheel offset on stock suspension. If your wheels are a different offset or the tire is slightly wider I have no experience with that to tell you whether it'll work or not. I gambled on the tire size i picked after some measurements and it worked out. Go to discount tire and tell them the plan, let them know you aren't sure the tires will fit. As long as you don't drive away on them they'll work with you to get a set that does.

I should also note that this will affect your speedo. I am about 3 mph faster than the speedo at 70mph. I can live with that.

Also, i live in MN and these things have been awesome in the cold and snow so far. Hope this helps someone trying to decide on tires.

Just a FYI, you are in a full-size there. This thread is geared towards the R60. The tire clearances will be substantially different, though I would bet any tire that fits a R60 will fit yours as well.

A 235/60 is over 29" tall. Have to remember the sidewall number is a ratio of the width of the tire...so a 205/60r18 and a 235/60r18 is not "the same height just wider" in any way....its both, and sometimes its substantially different.

If you are going to go as tall as possible, keep it skinny as possible. That will keep the shoulder of the tires from rubbing things. For example I am running 245/45r18s and I have nothing left, due to how wide they are.

THANK YOU!!!!!!! I was just looking at those 245/45r18s and wondering if they were a little tooo balloonish. I've decided 235/50/18 will fit nicely without too much fatness. https://www.wheel-size.com/calc/?whe...cl=30mm&sr=0mm

245/45 is not baloonish at all. That calculator is not very accurate as far as its diagram goes, but 235/50 should work nicely.

For example this is how a 245/45r18 sits on the rims:

Here's my worry. the 235/50 will be nice but if I use that size with the H&R lowering springs it might be too low. My 225/50's to me are a bit to low profile but if I lower with H&R and change the rim to an et40 it will look like this video (below) but tires pushed out more even to fenders. Now I really wanted wider tires as I think it would look better. So the 245/45 is very close to the 225/50 but a pinch smaller in height. I need the pinch higher in height but wider with the lowering springs. DO you guys think from this video if I use an 18" et40 with 235/50's and H&R Springs it would look good? I don't want the car to look slammed.

Your math sounds right. This being a R60 thread and not a F60 thread...the previous conversations dont completely apply as I think you have much larger wheel wells. I have never took a tape measure to compare the two models though!

The car is nimble on the current Goodyear EfficientGrip ROF, they have a 8.6 inch tread width (according to Goodyear). Concern is that going wider to a 245 the car would not feel as nimble. Soliciting your observations...
Thanks,
Lisa

How in the world did you get a 28" tire to fit? I'm working on a 245/50/18 which is 27.6 inches and it's within 1/4 in of plastic or felt liners inside the fenders?

Its too wide. OP is using a 225/55 so the bit of narrowness helps. Also your tire may actually already be the exact same height but just wider as the 55ratio of a 225 is the same as a 50ratio of a 245...plus all tires vary even within the "same size".

Your right and wrong. The problem is the width he is trying to run. In my initial post i give the tire size. 215/65/17 Falken Wild Peak AT3 not a 225/55

It's the width of your tire and possibly the offset of your wheel. The tire on my car is only 215 wide vs your 245 and the offset on my wheel is 50mm. there are many different wheel offsets and tire sizes that make 28" but i can only tell you that a stock 17" wheel with the 50mm offset in a 215 65 tire works.

The width is not my problem as my offset is 40 compared to his stock 52. So that should even out. It’s the overall diameter or “length” of the tire side to side. If that makes any sens.

28” do fit. Just installed the same size with some 215/65/17 Falken Wildpeak Trails.

It’s a relatively new tire by Falken specifically made for CUV/SUV. This is on stock height suspension. It was close in the rear, had to take the little mud flaps off in the front of the wheel well. Other than that no problems. Getting aligned as we speak.

Bravo! That looks super sharp! I'm thinking just a smidge smaller 215/60/17 on some anthricite 141s for my car..would feel more comfortable with a little more open space in that wheel well since I run through dirt roads and dodge pot holes. I'll just keep the Efficient Grips RoF (summer tires) on the 18" TurboFans and use them up a little more. The EFSummers seem to be doing ok here in the colder temps (40-50s), the rain and even the pot holes. They are a little stiff but they're rolling a long.
