18x8 wheels with 235 or 225 tire?

Looking for some input from you 18x8 people. I just purchased some TSW Nurburgring 18x8 wheels with a 35 offset. I am now trying to determine the tire size. I will be purchasing the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3. I think I am down to the 225/45/18 and 235/45/18. The 225's are pretty close to the original height where as the 235's are about a 1/2" taller. I'm not worried about my speedo as I can code it out. My CM is lowered with NM springs. My Discount tire guy recommends the 225's. Not sure if hes being over conservative.

Thoughts

Thanks!!
Chris

I've only read people having wider than 215 with spacers and some serious tire angle changes / \ plus fender trimming.

A wider tire doesn't change the camber. There are plenty of R60's running 225's with no issues (fender trimming or rubbing).

225 on NM 19x8

I am running 225 on my 19" rims from NM
http://www.nm-eng.com/nm881001s-nm-e...ght-wheel.html
Same rim width as yours. These are on a 2013 Countryman S w/NM lowering springs.

If I had it to do over I would have probably picked 235s. The tire offers no protection from curb damage at that size (225), as I can already attest to.

This tire calculator is pretty cool:

Thanks for the info and cool calculator. Very helpful with fender and suspension clearance. Is your 225 flush with the outside of your rim?

I see the 235 is wider (about 1/4" each side) but is also taller by .4" or so. I'm just not sure if there will be noticeable reduced low end because of the larger diameter tire and ratio change. Also, just researching tires and the 235 is about 2lbs heavier per tire. So, I may lean towards the 225. Still pondering though...

Actually the rims extend just a bit past the tire, hence my note about wishing I had gone with 235s.
As far as weight goes, I went from the factory 17s to 19s and as such was already adding some weight. That and resultant loss of torque of the slightly larger diameter were not a consideration of mine. I doubt I would be able to tell the difference with my butt dyno.

I ended up going for the 225's. Found a great deal on them at Costco. I shall see if they afford any protection for the rim. Hopeful.

I went with the TSW mostly for weight loss and second for the looks. They weigh in at 18.6lbs each. Whereas the stock are 23lbs. The tires are also a bit lighter by 1 lb. so, weight savings of 6lbs per corner. That's excellent rotational mass savings.

Had the tires installed today. I'm happy the rim doesn't stick out further than the tire, but can see how bumping them up to 235's would help. Now I just need to refinish the rotor and calipers.

Just installed last week 235/45 R18 BFGoodrich g-Force Sport COMP-2's on 18" x 8" Sparco Pro Corsa wheels with a 45 mm offset on my 2014 JCW CM. The ride is a world of a difference better than 225/45 R18 Bridgestone Dueler H/P runflats the car came with (w/ the stock JCW 18 x 7.5's), and there's still plenty of clearance all around.

Wouldn't have minded going with 225's for weight reduction, but at least I wasn't really gaining weight either coming from the runflats. Traction in the corners is fantastic, though.

Post Tire Purchase

I have purchased a set of Apex EC7 18 x 8-1/2" Rims for my 2012 CMS (45mm offset). I have stock Mini 18 x 7-1/2" rims and Goodyear 225/45/R18 Runflats presently on my CMS.
I want to buy "non-runflat" tires for my new rims. After reading most of these threads, it seems that I shouldn't have a problem going up to 235/45/18s. My speedometer might be off a little, but I'd rather fill the wheel wells up a little more. Any suggestions?

Bought Goodyear Eagle LS2 235/45/R18s for less than $500

Yes, the new non-run flats are amazing. The cornering is off the charts compared to the run flats. Really love the new set-up. It's like a new mini again.

I plan on a 235/40/18 on my R56 for the track.
Need more grip and a few more revs at the top as I approach a few turns at Sonoma Raceway. I thinbk the main issue is limiting how low I can drop the ride height.
Would love to see a pic of a 235 on a R56 though if anyone is willing

I went with 235/40/18's and dont have any issues. I started with 245's and they were a little more snug in the rear than i would like.

Coilovers are on the way

How snug was the rear with the 245 tires?

Would trimming the inside fender help create more room?

Do you think adjustable control arms would help fit the 245 tires better?

Please keep in mind this is my observation. 245s will clear with the +45 offest. You'll have maybe 1/4 inch gap on the back side of the rear tire. I am not sure if adjustable lca's would help much. It was a little to close for my taste. I did try and had no rubbing issues on 245/40/18, but i only drove a few blocks as the tires were slicks from my other car.

Hoosier's ftw!

that 235/40/18 looks exactly like how I want it.

I'm deciding between 235/40/18 or 225/45/18, rim specs are 18x8 35mm offset and lowered 2" on coilover. the problem is the 35mm offset and the moderate drop, so I'm concerned that 225/45 will rub. My previous tires were 245/40/18 and they rubbed on 1.75" drop when going over large bump.

Can you guys share some thoughts?

Kevin

I will let you know. I hope to do my coilovers this weekend, and plan on starting as low as they will go.

Yumm... post pics when you're done. I'm going to readjust the rear shocks to midway 15 clicks, had it on 20 clicks from hard and it's too soft. I could feel slight bouncing from the driver seat. So I would start with 15 when you install the coilovers, otherwise you have to jack up the car, take out the coilover against to adjust.
