JCW R129 19" wheels

I saw these on a CM here on the forum and they look really nice. What is the deal with these? Are they OEM wheels from a JCW version of the CM? They don't show up on the CM build configurator so it looks like they're aren't an upgrade option. Where are they available from?

I did some quick research and found the part number (for the black version) of 36116796992, this is just the wheel, no tire, TPMS sensor or center cap.

I found OEM wheels on sale for $411 each and replica versions for $229 each with free shipping and no tax. Going to have to do some more research on this but sounds interesting.

Where did you find them so cheap? I was quoted close to $4,000 with a bit of a discount from my MINI dealer (that was with the sensors and cap and tires)

Do those really make that much of a difference? Also it looks like MINI is coming out with another 19" wheel... It's on the german website for the new JCW Countryman

http://www.mini.de/mini_countryman/j...man/index.html

Took me a little while to get used to them but I think I might like them more than the R129....

Probably they do make these differences: harsher ride, degraded traction over less than smooth roads, greater susceptibility to wheel damage, and reduced acceleration due to heavier weight.

I was talking about the per wheel price only ($402.90 each). I'm not interested in the wheel/tire package because that comes with run flats. I saw them here... http://mini.sewellparts.com/oem-cata...R60S-2012.html

We test drove two CMs, one with 17s and one with 18s and the ride quality was barely changed, such a slight amount that it doesn't factor in my decision. After coming from an '05 MCS I was shocked that the CM rode so smoothly... and that was with run flats. Some tire brands ride much different than others so reading reviews on tirerack is worth it. I have 30-series 20" tires on my Genesis, barely any sidewall, and even those are fine for me.

With that being said, I would never have considered 19s for the CM until I saw bentyyc's car with them. He shows his car with the JCW 19s and also with the split spoke 18s... and the 19s look sooo much better, just perfect on his CM. IMHO they are proportionally a perfect fit for the CM. Here are his photos... https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ners-club.html

They do look awesome... I think I would go for the burnished R129's on my car... but that is just because it's light white. Thanks for the link and the info!

I can deal with the car riding a bit harsher as I'm coming out of an R57 with 17's...even though I swapped the run flats on that car it still broke everyones back every time we hit a bump :P

My R53 had 18s and was lowered... the CM with 18s rides like an old plush Buick in comparison.

Here is a place with a replica version if you're interested...

I am pretty interested.... What are the disadvantages of going with the replica in your opinion..... The big plus is that it's WAY less money!

Hey thanks for the props MotoGreg.

The 19" wheel/tire combo - to me - rides no harsher than the 18" wheel/tire combo. Both have RFT tires, and don't feel appreciably different. If anything the 19" Pirellis ride a little smoother than the 18" Bridgestones...

Thanks for the info. I'd be going with 225/40/19 Continental ExtremeContact DW (not runflats). These tires consistently get great reviews for noise, comfort, performance and also have a 340 wear rating.

BFG is coming out with a G-Force Sport2 in the same size, but they're 8lb. heavier than the DW.

I've been a mechanic for a long time, the past 15 years at a Honda dealer, so I drive about 8 cars a day on average... so you really get a good understanding of how much difference tires can make to ride quality and noise.
