Fall Motoring
Due to some interest in a trip this fall, we suggest a run over into Iowa to see the Madison County Covered Bridges. Just a few years ago there were 19 bridges to see, now it's down to six. One we can drive through which should make for some great photograph opportunities. Oh yeah...there are some gravel roads involved to see half the bridges, but three are on paved roads. We would drive slowly on gravel, probably 30mph top speed. Motor over in the morning, be there around 10AM, see 3 bridges, get some lunch, see the other bridges, motor homeward as a group.
We think an 8AM start would help get us back to our start area around dinner time. Hurry over in the morning via the interstate, with a start point on the east side of Council Bluffs, then find some two lane roads for the rebound ride.
Date November 7th 2010
Start Time: 8:00AM
Meeting Place: Kmart Parking Lot, 2803 East Kanesville Blvd, Highway 6, Counciltucky Iowa
Things to bring: CAMERA! YOUR MINI! Road Food, Radios for road chat, you know those GMRS/FRS things...
Crappy weather alternate Date: November 14th (don't expect a change unless it's below freezing temps with major white stuff falling)

Two links to the Bridges. The first one is from Madison County and there is a nice PDF file map that we'll be using to motor from bridge to bridge.
http://madisoncounty.com/index.php?page=the-bridges
The second link has better photos of the bridges, two pages there, link at the bottom of the first page.

I'm in. Since I suggested it, I better be going. Last Saturday I already did a short drive down south through Nebraska to Brownsville. However, I found out that the bridge was closed and had to double back to Neb. City. Then to the Loess Hills to Crescent. Looking forward to the next drive and hope the weather is still good.

Looks like I have to back out. Due to schedules of my kids, looks like that same day (7th) was about the only day my kids were available to take me out for my birthday dinner. So will catch up with you all on the next one.

Map posted. Planning on motoring over on the interstate to save time, see the bridges, then 2 lane roads back to Omaha.
We'll use this map to navigate to the bridges: http://madisoncounty.com/uploads/PDF...County_Map.pdf
Another MINI from Falls City will be joining us!

Since I can't be going along, I have a recommendation for you. If you are going out by I80 on the way out, take the Greenfield exit (exit 86). Drive less than a mile south and stop at the Patriot Rock (you can almost see it from I80). Great photo op to have the MINI's parked in front of it. You will see it on the left side and can't miss it. Bubba repaints it every year with a different patriotic theme. There is a little shelter next to it that shows past paintings of it.

Well, its turning out that I wont be able to make it. This really bums me out. If I wouldn't have decided to accent my engine bay. There might have been a possibility. But my intake horns are going to powdercoat on Monday or Tuesday. That and I don't want to make this trip on open race header.
