Possible?
Possible?
Ok I really hate to bring this topic back up again, but here it goes. I found this when I was looking for a new wastegate for my 240sx. http://www.nolimitmotorsport.com/prod/MC2501-X I think that this kit would work for the cooper, I believe the engine could handle it well as long as the boost is around 6 pounds. Anyone have any comments? Or and I Crazy again?
You are crazy, but anything is possible.
You wanna try it and report back?
(Keep in mind Im a noob who didnt search, research, and Im just guessing, lol)
Course... if youre gonna boost....

I would est. a gain of around 35hp (roughly) That would put the Mini around 150 something(with some other mods) The stock tranny could still handle it. Perhaps beef up the clutch while im at it. I think that it would be pretty cool. Price is decent. I think its a slight price to pay to see the look on someones face when they hear the Blow off Value hissing at them. lol
Dood...if your gonna go turbo....go BIG. Not with some hair dryer that will yield a massive 35HP.
GT3076R or GT4082R is gonna be my ball park turbo.

Seriously, what's gonna recognize the boost and not shut down the car right away? You can't just throw one on and expect it to run. You know this. Your still gonna have to run some type of A/F and EMU and that alone is gonna break your bank.
Unless you throw an S ECU and harness and add the sensors as you go. That's an option I suppose. But, I like my route better..lol
well, is the MC a MAP or a MAF? And what else does the Powertrain ECU control? Would a stand alone (I would go Megasquirt) interfer with other systems?
if soo... It would be cool to find an aftermarket turbo made for the s15 =]

I believe it is a MAF and instead of the megasquirt I would go with the Apexi SAFC 2 for fuel control
Err, whats the difference? AFAIC they are the same, fuel management includes air intake, boost controller if need be. It is powertrain managment that would worry me, if the ECU for the engine would be the same used for the traction control or the CVT if you have it...
Hmm, just thought of it... If this is the fact and you unplugged the PCM, the computer would throw a MIL... if you wanted to get rid of that pesky Check engine, you could run a simulator... Hmmmm I think too much

Having known two of the people who ran the M7 MC turbo during its R&D, and another who ran a custom MC turbo.....even at 6 pounds(which is what they were running at some points) the car will have problems. They had countless problems with the internals and the tranny. In the end, after more than a year of development, the project was dropped without much hope of it ever actually working.
Granted...its possible if you spend enough money to change all of those things$$$$....but why not buy an EVO or subaru for that price, maybe even a BMW?
I've said it before and will say it again. If you want large HP out of the Cooper, the answer will ALWAYS be "Yes, it's possible, but it will cost you thousands of dollars and will require new internals and a new transmission."
PS...6lbs was the highest boost that i heard of them running.....the average output was 160 to the wheels which is pretty good for low boost on a car that makes less than 100hp from the factory.

I will like my 600HP Cooper. I have the money to spend....sort of....lol2 - I will be changing my internals and fully building the motor and trans.
3 - I am shooting for about 35lbs of boost or 2.5 bar.
Kalbone and I are puttin' the cage in this weekend.
