Can I get a cam recomendation?
Can I get a cam recomendation?
I have an '02 MC with the cvt trans, modified muffler, ported heads, K&N cone-type air filter. It's faster than when stock, but still not fast(to me). I think I cannot fully realise the potential of the ported head with the stock cam, which feels flat(always has). Last time I posted a cam question it was removed(!). I appreciate someone taking the time to advise. -Jeffy.

HMS 2017 Schrick Cam MCS $469.00
HMS 2018 Schrick Cam MC $449.00
"Schrick represents the benchmark for European camshaft machining technology. The Schrick camshaft (252/260) for the Cooper and Cooper S is CNC machined from cold billet to improve top end power, without sacrificing idle smoothness."
------------------------------
At Mini Mania:
For the MCS Ultrick cam is $399.95.
Info on the Ultrick:
Ground to Mini Mania's exacting specifications by a selected major OEM camshaft supplier, this high performance camshaft increases horsepower and torque throughout the RPM range. Similar performance to the Schrick camshaft at a lower cost. The camshaft can be used with the stock or ported cylinder head and stock valve springs. A great way to improve performance without disassembling the motor – a difference you can feel!
Intake: Duration 264, Lift 9.5mm, overlap 0.5, peak timing 114, open at 18, close at 66.
Exhaust: Duration 272, Lift 9.0mm, overlap 0.65, peak timing 114, open at 70, close at 22
For the MCS shrick cam $579
For those interested in numbers...
Intake: Duration 264º, Lift 9.5mm, overlap 0.5, peak timing 114º, open at 18º, close at 66.
Exhaust: Duration 272º, Lift 9.0mm, overlap 0.65, peak timing 114º, open at 70º, close at 22º.
The MC shrick cam is $579.
NOTE: As with other performance camshafts, Spark plug tubes may require minor clearancing.

I know of 3 other companies making cams for the Mini/MCS. Piper cams was the mildest one I saw. The Kent cam was between the Piper and the Schrick in duration, with lift matching the Schrick MCS cam. The 3rd company is www.catcams.be I just briefly looked at their cams, as I had already ordered the Schrick for my MCS.
I autocross with my local BMWCCA chapter... I'm not a big fan of the SCCA events, personally, so I avoid them. Our local BMWCCA chapter has longer courses, which are more fun, higher speed, and we get LOTS more runs (8+ for timing and as many fun runs as you want). Besides, the BMWCCA people are a lot more friendly in my experience... at least locally, anyhoo.

We run on Saturdays, mostly... Sometimes on Sunday (like in October, since our NIGHT AUTOCROSS is Saturday). The Night Autocross is a freakin' blast - we start off Saturday evening, make fun runs, then all eat... when the sun goes down, it's fog and driving lights time. Red/orange on one side of the cones, green on the other - it's kinda like navigating a boat at night.
For the safety mavens out there, this is a HUGE lot with nothing to hit - and we leave a LOT of runout room.
Where are you located? If it's Houston, there's a BMWCCA chapter there, too. There's actually one in Austin/Hill Country as well, but they don't have an AX program.

I'm located in Boerne, houston is a doable drive for an autox.. that does sound fun, I think autox with a bunch of minis and bmw would be a blast. Dave showed me the site for the BMWCCA in sanantonio but like you said it doesn't have an autox..
