PIPERCROSS VIPER does not fit !!!
PIPERCROSS VIPER does not fit !!!
i purchased a pipercross viper kit from a mini enthousiast second hand.
the viper is made for my model, so i assumed it would fit nicely,
as u can see in the picture the plastic OEM tube (the one that goes into the engine) is bend a lot !!! i think this is a major airflow restriction.
on the other side i connected the viper with the OEM ram air pipe... with the tube that came with the airfilter.
but to me it seems that there are to many bends and turns for optimal performance.
My friend the mecanic told me to just take of the OEM tube and connect the airfilter directly too the engine,
after that buy a longer piece of pipe and connect it to the OEM ramair. Like this it woul be posible to make a nice turn too the ramair pipe and not bending it so much..... there would be a much better airflow ....
BUT.... i am a little afraid of particles , dust sand , or something else entering the engine this way ?
there should be people around with the same problem, anybody who purchased a viper kit should have had this issue....
Why doesnt pipercross provide an extra piece of equipment to put in front of the intake. There is enough room when the stock airbox has been taken out, but the engineers at pipercross did not do there homework well, they should have been aware and figure out a solution, insteas of letting the customers figure it out....
cheers
p.s i must admit i feel a small performance gain, but i am SURE this could be a much better gain if the sysytem is tought through a little better for the mini cooper !

how does the one for cooper S look like ? maybe he sold me the cooper S model....
it did not come with any invoices or papers ... i asked for them but he just did not have them.... Price was the decision maker in this case....
have u guys got any pictures of your viperkit ? how does yours fit the compartement.
are u guys happy with the performance ? i am happy but i could be happier ?
and does yours look exactly the same as mine on the picture. Where do u get your air from?
from the OEM ram-air pipe or did u take out the OEM ram air pipe and replaced it with the pipercross ramair tube directly behind the grill ???
a lot of questions, but i need too ask them because i just cant find any installation guides on the internet nor on the pipercross website ?
cheers
Miniracer1, going by the picture kurvhugr provided, it looks like your filter should be pulled up a wee bit to ensure the factory tube is more at a 90 degree angle. (left tube). Its almost like you have pushed it too far down?
Note the location of his and yours in regards to the other wires and hoses. I think it will work its just all in the positioning...

You have some sort of extra adapter on the exit end of the canister - that pinkish thing.
Like Paul said, it also looks like it's sitting at an odd angle. I remember the first time I installed mine I ended up with one of the brackets either backwards or mounted in the wrong spot (wrong bolt) or something and I think it looked a lot like yours does now. That extra adapter steals some space as well and there's ZERO room to spare. I wonder if I still have my instructions......

But now i have seen your pictures i will take out the pinkish adapter and try again, this should solve the problem, i just do not hope something is wrong with the filter or missing when i take the adapter out ....
i let u know how this evolves....
When you remove the adapter, the end of the canister should fit inside the stock tube. I hate to be a pessimist but it looks like it's not going to fit inside there.
From the looks of it the adapter isn't the only problem. It still looks to me like the inlet end of the canister is pointing too much toward the front of the car. There should be a bracket on the inlet side of the canister. Maybe it's not attached in the right place?

2morrow i will try too take it of.... hopefully i will get it back on afterwards...
this is how it should look like....
is there anyone out there that can take a picture of th induction kit NOT INSTALLED too the car..... so i can compare the inlet and outlet of the kit with mine....
i am staring too believ this kit could be for another type of model of car.... a VW beetle maybe..... i am just guessing here, and 2morrow i will know....
the power this intake generates is awesome by the way.... and makes me smile even when install is poor....

should be like this
when i removed the adapter pinkish thing, it seems the neck of the viper induction kit , is too long and wide, too fit the inlet OEM tubing... it does not fit inside the tube because its to big, it fits around it ....
bummer... on the picture above the neck of the viper is very short and mine is not ?
does anyone have experienced this also....
it seems i can only leave the adapter on there, because ther is no other solution i guess...
does the viper kit look alike on any type of car or are there differences between 1 type of car... because i was told the viper kit is the same no matter what model of car... ???
