Buy a Cooper S

I've a MINI One (2005), a present of my parents. Offcourse I want a Cooper or Cooper S, but I'm satisfied. Maybe when I finished my study I'll buy a new Cooper S. Two weeks ago I drove in a R56 Cooper and Cooper S.

Just to add my $.02..

IMHO, I think that MOST MC owners are like myself, who bought the car because it's fun to drive, even stock/OEM. Up until this past summer, all my 'youifying' was done on bling - nothing on performance.

A few reasons for that, I believe... I know next to nothing about performance mods, and many of the websites (like MiniMania, M7, among others) don't do a good job of weeding out or stating if a product is for an MC or an MCS (or both). I know one of the biggest things I need to do is learn - however, the only /real/ way *I* learn is by doing with my hands. (Even WATCHING would help!). So getting a book would do nothing for me. I could learn by reading posts here, but I'm so far behind that I wouldn't even know what to search /for/. So when I see a TB or such on a site, I think that replacing mine would take 1-2 days, and that since most modding support is out there for MCS, I'd be on my own. If ti fit and I didn't run into issues. Another reason is that *I*, as a n00b to playing with performance, I don't know what IS out there and available for my MC. I couldn't care less if I got it from different sources, personally (as some poster mentioned). On top of that, I'm not going to go into something blindly - I want to hear feedback from others before dropping $400 on something, and want to make sure it'd work on my MC before shelling out the money.

The only performance mods I've done to my MC so far is front suspension (new struts, Koni's), and strut tower bar from M7 (who, in his defense, answered all my questions and was honest to me stating that 'it may not fit'. Luckily, it fit great, and I /love/ the what it did. I'm certainly interested in their USS and getting a rear swaybar. Of course, money is always an issue as well - Moxie will be paid off in a couple months, and then I can start saving up for mods.

M7 Peter - If you were in my part of the country, you could have my MC for a MONTH. I'd LOVE to give it to someone for R&D..!

Cheers!
Me.

So, if it's written in a book it does nothing and if it's written on a vendor website it does? That's A$$ backwards!

Start with a do nothing book on fuel injection tuning. I know, it will do nothing. Nothing but give you the understanding of the systems involved on any car!

Then, get a service manual for a mini cooper (another book that does nothing). Then when you see a TB add, you'll a) know what it does and b) be able to see how hard it is to install.

It's not the websites fault that you don't know if a part is for a MC or an MCS. Educate yourself!

I think you will also find that you save a lot of $$$$$. If the only way to figure something out is to buy a bunch of stuff and see if it fits, you're sure to loose a lot of green.

Matt

Sorry to bring up a 200 year old thread, but after reading it, i'm curious what that "new" part was supposed to be. M7 did you ever produce it or what. I have a Cooper Non-S and always looking to upgrade stuff...
