05/06 MC (non s) Intake Interest Thread

Since we still don't have a real intake designed specifically for the '05 and '06 MC, maybe a strong show of interest will help one of the vendors see the potential for this totally untapped market.

Please post only if you would be serious about purchasing an intake for your '05 or '06 MC.

Count off!

Isn't there a K&N available now?

Webb Motorsports lists the Moss intake as fitting an '05, but I think that's incorrect.

Yes the K&N 57i is specifically designed for the MINI. I have one, I am really happy with it. I have not had time to record sound clips yet.

The 57i actually came out BEFORE the typhoon so it might be a bit harder to find....just a random tidbit of info

Is the "old" Moss intake actually different from the Cobalt one that Moss sells now? I assumed it was just a rebadge.

6, but I'll need to see dyno runs. I suspect that the 05-06 airbox is already pretty efficient.

It's just as efficient as the 02-04. And like the 02-04 you will probably see an 2-4 hp gain unless you car is heavily modified at which point you might see more

Anyone actually tried the myminiparts one on an '05 or '06?

(sorry, I'm a bit skeptical of the claim it works from '02 to '05 when we know there was an airbox/engine mount change)

the cobalt the sell now is sold out, they arent any more in stock and they cant get any.

the cobalt needs a bit of grinding and some cutting to fit properly on an 05 06, otherwise it rubs like crazy all over the place

It looks like the same part that was listed last week for 02-04. Maybe someone can e-mail them for an answer. They are actually pretty good about answering. I would do it, but I am not at home.

Here is the reply I just got from MyMiniParts:

Thanks for the inquiry!

]We have not yet fitted the Cooper kit to the 05>06 cars but we feel confident that it should work. I know the motor mount and new filter box are different but I've been told it will work on the '05-'06.

Regretfully I don't have any in stock right now. I'm told they'll arrive in about a week. I'll take one to the local dealer and have it fitted to an '06 to make sure, then get back to you.

So don't order it just yet if you don't mind!

Thanks again and have a great holiday season! I'll be in touch!

Sincerly,
Pete Foglia
MyMini

That should answer some questions for now. I will let you guys know when I hear from them.

Actually, Pete has been completely honest and straight forward with me. I've been bugging him about this intake for about a year now. I can't wait to see what the end result is.

Cool - thanks for getting us the info! That's an interesting-looking unit. I'd love to see a photo of it installed. I can't quite tell what's going on with it.

intake in the works

Yesterday, I spoke with a vendor who is starting R&D for a Cooper intake. He expressed the concern that there hasn't been enough interest expressed by the Cooper owners. So speak up. Let them know what you want; intakes, exhaust, etc.

Sorry, forgot about this thread. The vendor is MyMiniParts. Here is the product:

You can read a quick discussion on this vs K&N in this thread

I also received an email from Pete at MyMini stating that he can have the product shipped with an ITG foam, or a K&N filter. I am not sure if that would cost more, or not. You can always email him. He is excellent at responding to e-mails and generally in answering any quesions. A super guy all around.
