I’m definitely interested in a new intake for my 05 MINI. Other than the K&N, I’ve not heard of any other intakes for 05’s. Although I’d appreciate more horsepower, I’d be happy with the throatier (did I spell that correctly?) sound! I’d also like to find a kit that’s easy to install and not look like pipes from under my sink. Did I also mention keeping the price under $200?

Looks good, Rick; been raiding the plumbing supply again? J/K, it really does look good.
What kind of filter are you using?

I modify Moss Cobalt's for ease and low cost, so it is an aFe, but i can substitue a K&N that will fit nicely.

I'm just going by what I've read on Randy Webb's site:
"This system looks OEM and seems to be one of the highest relative horsepower gains available for the Cooper. This system has a reusable foam element and a redesigned ram air tube for optimized air flow. Gains of 5 horsepower."

Looks pretty OEM like to me.
You can reuse the OEM cover for an even more OEM like look.
The MINIMANIA cover is smooth inside and might flow better than
the OEM one, but this is only a guess.

I would purchase a CAI for my 06 Cooper if one were available. It would be a great compliment to the JCW Sound kit I have.
Thanks!

MFC! Quakertown?!?!?! Holy crap! I lived right down 309 in Sellersville! Ha! Small, or MINI, world. I worked at Raymour & Flanigan... What a trip. Do me a favor and go to Rossi's and get a 20" cheesesteak for me. Do your best on it. . .

I have an '05 and I got the K&N to fit fine. It's not the 57i, just the regular standard one. You can still find them someplaces and on ebay. Here's a pic:

Sounds great. You can make nearly anything fit under that hood. Get one and hook it up!

-Good luck!

The 57i's filter element is quite a bit bigger than those posted here. I am very happy with its ease of install, sound, and power and fuel economy gains.

I guess I should update the whole location thing. I moved to Lansdale about 3 years ago. What do you guys thing about having a heat shield? Worth it, or a waste of time/money?

Be careful with the pipercross....after a year and a half, the filter element split at the seam where it was glued together and left a huge hole to be sucking dirt into the engine Needless to say a pipercross wasn't used as a replacement

Thanx for the hint, I appreciate that! Tomorrow I'll look to the filter.

Thanks!
The intake that came with the kit is as true of an cold air intake as any out there no? It takes down pressure air from off the window vent vs. just a new hose and filter sucking in engine compartment air as the i57 styles do. A good CAI should have a shield from the engine heat and/or suck in cooler air from outside the bonnet. The tube also acts like a megaphone for sound to the drivers compartment too..and some argue that's all it does. Lastly the filter is made by pipercross.

What would be nice is to move the fluid container and put a small scoop on the window vent. I pick up my '06 MC JCW SK this friday so I'm interested to see how well that area seals against the bonnet and if some improvements could be made for air flow.

I just want a CAI for the extra engine noise. I think the minimal HP gains are mostly in your head anyway.
