best low end performance exhaust

hey all

been looking around for an exhaust for my 04 CVT Cooper with an ECU and a K&N Typhoon and countless other custom items and been reading around the threads about the Borla's, RSpeed's, Miltek's, Magnaflow's, etc exhausts and it's mostly about sound. Yes i want a little sound, i've heard the RSpeed, Borla and the Remus. I just want some growl, not loud, just some nice subtley to say i'm custom and better than your plain jane stock MINI . i like the sounds of the RSpeed and the Borla and the Remus, may go with the RSpeed because they are pretty much down the street from me.

anyway, another question, i know there isn't a lot of performance out of them and i'm not looking for that so much but which exhaust has the better low end increases? i don't care about hi end because i'm not a speed demon, i just want some more quicker starts, not for racing stuff, just to get the heck out of Atlanta traffic! haha any replies are very appreciated. thanks!!! if i don't reply back for a few days, it's not because i'm ignoring you, i'll be out of town for 5 days.

Thanks

often times with exhausts on N/A cars, you can lose low end torque...as a result of decreased back pressure. I think this is opposite for the forced induction cars.

Anyway, with you having a CVT, you will have a much harder time getting revs up enough to see low end performance gains after installing an aftermarket exhaust. My best guess, and this is just a guess, but I bet you actually lose performance from your CVT by putting in a freer flowing exhaust.

Might want to call some of the tuners and get their take on it, either Webb Motorsports or Stratmosphere directly...they do Milltek.

Have you thought about your exhaust headder?

If you want to increase low end torque you may want to think of a new header, rather than a cat back. You have two choices 4 into 1 and 4 into 2 into 1. Most of the current designs are 4 into 1 for more top end. The Clasic Mini guys all prefer the 4 into 2 into 1 design because it offers more low end torque. A header and catalist will cost you almost 2x as much as a new cat back, and it won't necessarily change the sound.

Just curious... has anyone bought one of these lately? I considered getting one, but it was way too pricey. I'd be surprised if they've sold more than half a dozen of these things in the three years that they've been offered.

Admax oil?! I've never heard one person here mention it in the 5,000,000 threads about preferred motor oils. And 7 HP from changing oils seems awfully unlikely, especially since the stock Castrol oil is supposedly "synthetic" in some debatable way.

The Admax oil added 0.7 ft/pds of torque and 0.4 horsepower.

Funny, those numbers looked familiar, then I realized that Tim and I rewrote our original 2/2003 article specifically for Bimmer.

I like the sound of the RSpeed exhaust too. When I recently talked to RSpeed on the phone they said they were going out of the MINI accessory business and didn't have the exhaust any more.

BeOSKid - It's always good to read a post from an eternal optimist - "Getting out of Atlanta traffic"? I suspect you could retire in a week if you find the solution to that one.

FYI - I fitted the Remus a while back and find the slightly deeper rumble just right and not too loud. The CAI is MUCH noisier than anything exiting from the rear of my car.

BeOSKid;

I'm with ya on the ATL traffic !!! 0 - 60 accelaration means more around here than high end rev HP .....my problem is getting enough acceleration to get away from the GA400 toll booth (for the rest of the board, nine lanes merge into three within a third of a mile).....

I'm thinking about just stubbing in a 14" Magnaflow on the stock diam. pipe and get rid of that monstrosity Mini calls a muffler.....just put a K&N panel and Kingsborne wires in.....need to open up the exhaust now...

Let the board know of your quest for more low end torque...
