Performance Mods :: Cooper

Today we have restructured performance mods a bit to create a place specific to discussions for the COOPER. It's our hope that with this change it becomes easier for MC owners to find the information they are after and find other like minded owners who share the passion for modding the MC.

Just what I was thinking, too, Rally! Great idea, Dave! It's another very much needed forum for NAM!

Sad to say, I suppose to some degree it does. Not so much that I wanted a place to talk about these things, but more so that I'm becoming more intune with how things have been on NAM for Cooper owners and this is an area that I'm seeing has needed to be addressed (before now). I'm glad to say we are making changes, but honestly I wish we had done this a while back.

What future mods do you have planned?

Maybe this will eventually talk me into putting a mod on my mini

I got so pissed off searching for the best stuff to put on my cooper for a while now... it's about time it'll be easier to find.

Being a leased vehicle... I have to limit my mods to things that are easy to revert back to stock and leave no sign of anything ever being there. Lets call these "stealth mods". Other than MTH, what are good stealth mods?

Modify the Cooper Muffler to be less restrictive (requires some welding/cutting skills/tools)... Basically you cut the muffler open and make it work properly, worth a few ponies, and looks 100% stock when you put it back.

Drop in filter? (heard these were mostly hogwash).

Easy to revert to stock CAI/WAI/HAI... Does anyone have anything for the 05+ coopers.

Stock 'S' Springs/Swaybars... It looks stock, because it is stock!

Does anyone have anything else to add?

The drop in filters may actually be better than a CAI systems. Thats what all the dynos in various magazines said....but i dont know how true it is. They certainly arent hogwash.

Springs and swaybar idea is a good one. Easy to find too since MCS owners are changing out for aftermarket parts

Brake fluid changes would be a good one, along with upgraded pads (black ones for stealthiness), and brake lines. These would be pretty stealth as long as they werent REALLY inspecting the car.

You would really need an intake and exhaust for this to make sense. But the throttle body is completely stock....its just bored out on the inside. so that mod is very stealth.

I think I might be coming from my mod perspective a little backwards, but a sway bar is one of my future purchases. I've got the Sport Suspension and haven't found a need to improve it much. It handles great even though I push it hard in the canyons and on the streets. Of course it might be better with improvements that I just don't realize. My Yokohama AVS-ES100 were one of the best handling improvements over the OEM runflats.

Due to $$ reasons and always looking out for the best deals, I can't really follow a logical mod path.

Most of these mods have been documented here:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=43520

Currently done:

Intake/Exhaust
Magnecor Plugs Wires
Remus Exhaust
MTH ECU Remap
Modified Moss CAI

Safety/Interior
Schroth Harnesses (driver/pass)
CG-Lock when I got back seat people
Whalen Shift Machine
Rubber Shift Boot
British Female Mod on Nav

Suspension
Stock
Future HSport Sway Bar

Brakes
Brass Brake Bushing
Stoptech Stainless Steel Lines
Super Blue Brake Fluid
Mintex Red Box Pads
Future Rotors
Future Painted Calipers

Exterior
Aerokit Spoiler
Future MCS Skirts
Front Mud Flaps
MINI Fini Sport Link

Funny this finally appears the same day that I bite the bullet and upgrade to an S. Maybe this will make more people inclined to buy my Cooper. That would be nice.

I like it! Good idea. Now all we need is an air intake for the '05s, and we'll be all set.

I suggest putting a "For Mini Coopers (non s!) only forum" under the title.

Appearently lots of S guys didn't catch the "non S" part.
