Intake Install - Resonance Tube
Intake Install - Resonance Tube
Alright, what's the trick? There has to be some black magic / voodoo spell required to get that that tube out of the resonator. I spent over an hour trying everything I could to get it out whole. Lots of cursing, cut knuckles, and no new intake when all was said and done.
There are 2 A/C lines around the area where the intake tube enters the frame rail. I can loosen the larger line by taking off the bracket, but the smaller line is clipped in, and I think that the clip will break if I try to open it. Do I need to open the clip on the smaller A/C line in order to have enough slack to take the intake tube off?

This is funny because I've discussed this in a couple of other threads fairly recently, and ran into the problem myself when I installed a CAI.
Still haven't seen anyone describe how to do it.
tl;dr; use a small hacksaw :( Sorry, hopefully someone with better insight responds.

I figure I'll end up going the hacksaw route, just didn't have one on hand this weekend or else the tube probably would have already been sacrificed.
Interestingly WayMotorWorks chimed in on an older thread and said it was easy. I may have to PM him and see if he has any tips on doing this. I think I may have to get the little A/C tube off the frame (?) to give enough room to manipulate the intake tube out.

ddm works intake installed... resonance tube did not survive the removal.
ended up uncliping the small A/C line and unbolting the support for the large A/C line. still could not get the tube to pop out of the resonance box inside the frame rail. so, i cut the tube and tossed it in the trash. still have the little stub of tube sitting there at the bottom. hooray for sloppy work!

Same boat. In fact my work was really ugly; I didn't have a small hacksaw, so I alternated between a full-sized hacksaw and a dremel, and cut off just enough of the resonance tube to fit the intake. So I really have like 1/2 of the resonance tube and the box sitting underneath. It bothers me, which is why I'm still hoping to one day figure out "the trick" to removing the resonance tube/box so I can go back in there and do it right.
I even had my MINI up on jacks with the front bumper removed because I did it at the same time I replaced my radiator fan. I tried to remove the frame rail itself so I could pull out the tube and the box together, but there was more resistance than I wanted to deal with, so I gave up in that regard as well.

the offending part is on the far right side of the picture. somehow, this one came out whole.
not sure what model you have, but this is in reference to a 2006 cooper (R50).
