True dual exhaust system??

Is it even remotely possible to install a true (2 cats, 2 mufflers, 2 pipes) dual exhaust system on a MINI? It would be hella expensive and possibly serve no purpose, but I want to know if it can be done.

Not planning on trying it; my mind just plays in strange places .

It's a 4 cylinder, so no! It would indeed serve no purpose and add a lot of weight! And there's really not any room under the car for this kind of setup!

Like said previously, a 4 cylindar only has one headder...so it never be a "true" 2 pipe set-up...
Plus the fact the computer only has inputs for one pre and one post cat O2 sensor means you would have a light, or need a simulator for the 02...
To keep the volume enough with 2 sets of pipes, you would need tiny pipes, mufflers, and cats...lots of wight, plumbing, and complexity, to gain nothing...
Just remember, one header, one pipe. That is why a v6 or v8 does best with 2 exhausts..(sometimes a x pipe too).

Techniclaly it IS possible. Just not worth the time or money.

Can we say modifyed 4-2-1 header, just cut the final collector off and run 2 pipes. You would still need to solve the o2 sensor issue though.

And by splitting the final connector, it would mean that you have 2 cylinders per exhaust, you would probably loose a lot of efficiency since only 2 cylinders push the exhaust gas out!

And you would need 4 cats, not 2...
Mini's like most modern cars have a smaller "precat" and the regular cat to work right....

Yep. It might sound kinda cool if you did side pipes like this though, but still SUCK!

Your replies have been most enlightening.

I had the feeling that, given the underbody space constraints and the architechture of the engine, such a setup would be difficult to produce and most likely serve only an aesthetic purpose. I wanted to know if it was even possible.

Thank you

The MINI doesnt need the pre-cat to work right....neither do most modern cars.

So just two would be needed really.

Silly idea though.

I guess you don't consider the Gen1 mini "modern"....
It has a pre-cat....

I think you missed his point...modern cars don't "need" pre-cats.
