And a six speed it became...

Just got the cooper out of the workshop today after a gearbox swap from an R53!!!The getrag is amazing, helps the mini stay in the power band.I didn't go with the lightweight flywheel cause of the extra money but I have to say I'm fully satisfied!

All I got to say is thanks to everybody here!!!

Και άλλος Έλληνας που τα χώνει σε R50? :D
Hi there mate, the Pre FL R53 gearbox will actually make the R50 noticeably slower, because of two reasons. First, you are going from a 7.7kg flywheel to a 12.4 kg flywheel which is a massive difference, and secondly because the gear ratios are even narrower than the Midland. Enjoy it though

Nai kai allos ellhnas!!
I'll have to disagree partialy on the fact that it makes the cooper slower! It makes it slower in the 0-60 mph accelaration but it's WAY better when the momentum of the heavier flywheel kicks in!the reprise of the car is amazing when compared to the midland! This can be clearly seen after 60 mph where it picks mph way faster than the 5 speed tranny!

next month there will be some software and l8r in the summer some cams( newman prob)

I suggest you don't get a canned tune, you will hardly notice a difference, based on my experience. The camshaft... well, i don't really think you'll like the way it works, an least the Newman, too agressive. You will spend a lot of money for small gains, and i have experience believe me

going a bit off topic here...sorry...!Nick what newman cam did you choose?the road one,or the fast road?I'm looking for the road cam 264-262 duration.

What do you mean by aggressive?cause last time I checked aggressive was what we were all aiming for. do you mean that the gains come in high rpms?

tnx Nick

I'd suggest you get a Janspeed exhaust manifold with decat pipe (it's a risk though running a de cat), a K&N panel filter or a good CAI (in any case remove the resonator), and get a custom remap on the dyno These will cost you about 1200eu, and will have a good effect, yet you need to do drastic changes to see a massive difference... The 3-4k rpm dip isn't going to leave you alone easily... maybe with a ported head only, everything else will not, from personal experience again.

And get rid that 12.4kg flywheel, mine is 3.7kg and still feels great

If I understood correctly you are asking about the price?it came to nearly 1800 euros with the stock flywheel,I got the tranny and flywheel in a great bargain price (400 euros)!
