Wow, so you did a dyno before and after of installing both sets? What non OEM wires were you using?

I can definitely say without dispute that I have proof the MSD is red.

Sorry, the JK means Just Kidding. I need to remember not everyone plays online first person shooters.

I took the og wires off for a set of jackson racing wires. I then spit a plug out of my cylinder head, so I have been going back to mostly stock electrical equipment before my RMW tune.

As I said for those that question " place an OEM and an MSD on an oscilloscope you can graphically see the difference".

And sure its a waste of a small amount of money to get a slight improvement . Spend lots of money to get small improvements

The voltage rating has very little to do with the performance of a coil by the way!

Maybe under laboratory conditions, the MSD will perform better, but you will not see ANY performance gains unless the stock one is not performing it's job correctly. The stock one is more than sufficient! It will make absolutely no power gain!

It your choice to use a product or not but get the information correct. And I did not mention power gain. What I said was a better-stabilized spark. So this by itself makes it an improvement over the OEM. I also gave a source to an expert in the field to contact to learn about coils and not necessarily MSD? And I also tried to illicit imperical proof by asking that the one(s) that claim it not to be an improvement to see the results of there claim on a scope. Which is were you would measure the difference NOT a DYNO as Data DYNO Jan tried to use as a reference to measure a coils capability. And I read the negatives on other posts and concluded that most were under a miss installed, other problems, bad choice of wires and generally not fully knowing what they were doing as a result of there less then good experience with MSD products. And this is my experience with using MSD products on my daily drivers, Flat Bottom Drag boat, my Super Gas Camaro and many other engines and vehicles over the last 30 years.

The MSD unit may perform better on a scope but so far we've seen lots of examples where the tips corrode. How can we all be installing them incorrectly to have the same issue? I ran mine with Kingsborne wires with dielectric grease on the tips and saw corrosion to the point of misfire codes. Swapped the OEM wires and still had the same codes. Swapped out the MSD for a stock unit and codes went away. I did clean the tips on the MSD unit with emory cloth and still would get corrosion after about 1K miles or so. Oh yeah, it doesn't rain much here either and I tend to drive the Jeep when it does.

So while it may be a technically superior unit, in practice on a MINI they have proven to be problematic. Keep the MSD stuff for your big block, just not on my MINI.
