Oil Dipstick - 2006 MC Cabrio Automatic

I would really like to find a replacement dipstick for my MINI.
I did the MINI Dipper II group buy only to find out that it would not fit. I think Craven was a bit surprised as well. The stick was too long, so sent it back and they sent me a different one. This time the diameter of the handle was too big and would not fit into the nozzel. Oh well, sent it back for refund.
Moss advertised the MINI Dipper II and indicated it would fit my specs so I ordered it. Stick is too long and I think the diameter of the handle is too big as well.
I really want to get rid of the OEM in favor of a more blingy dipstick to match my engine theme:

Any suggestions, or luck with this issue from other MCCa owners? I thought about painting the yellow handle, an option I guess. I also thought about dipping it in the rubber stuff since I did this for the tow hook. Not too shiny though. What are your thoughts?

dip your dipstick handle in the same stuff as people use on their tow hooks ( Plastidip , I think ). They have red, and it should be pretty tough, its used mostly for tools

I did actually consider the rubber dip option, however it would not be shiny (and I'm into shiny). I may have to settle for a simple paint job.
I guess I could powder coat it, that might be cool.

Looking at your engine bay, it seems appropriate to paint it.

Whatever you do, you also need to do it to your bonnet release lever... I'm thinking about painting or dipping both, myself.

Excellent observation Paul. I think the release lever just has the yellow plastic slip-over cap. I've got the plastic dip, I should give it a try. Thanks.
Now back to that damn OEM dip stick - no blingy options that any knows of?

In the FAQ on the Plastidip website I found an option to make the surface glossy:

Is there any product on the market that can be applied over Plasti Dip® to provide a glossy finish?

Our Perfomix® Brand F-799 Top Coat will provide a glossy finish and is currently available in 5 gallons and 50 gallon drums.
I have never used it, but am planning to within the next 6 months or so (waiting for winter to be over so I have more space to work with while Plastidipping parts of my car :P)

Ahhhh.... I remember this thread....

FWIW, I DID recently dip both my bonnet release lever and dipstick handle red. Both are holding up well so far...

I don't remember this thread and I started it.
I've painted both the dip stick and release. I took the whole release assembly off and painted it all. Need to be very accurate when putting it back on - I had to take the inside of the fender off to get at the passenger side that would not release. All better now and in red even.

Can't wait for pictures. I love what you've done to your engine bay. I hoped to run into you at MITM last August, but never saw you. Maybe next year.

I just painted my dipstick, oil cap, battery box, plug cover, and SRPs over the holidays to match the body or roof color. We'll see how it holds up.

You missed Chuck at MITM? Must have been busy...

Chuck, do you still have one of those "blingy" dip sticks? I might know a
machinist who is willing to help you out.

No I sent both back to Craven at which point they changed the discription to exclude MCca. But the red paint is holding up well so I'm happy.
As for missing me at MITM - find me this year and we can ogle each other's bays and get new ideas.
