hummm seems rather questionable seeing as with a normal turbo setup you need to lower your compression to cope with the incresseed pressure on the cylender walls......

I'm no pro, but before I'd do that, at least I would find out how the R56 MC and MCS engines differ when built by MINI. I'm sure if all MINI had to do was bolt on the turbo, they would. So, if other things are different, I'd be very very skeptical.

off course , but they have a good FAQ section on there site and can answer a lot of related questions ... i am no PRO either, so what they are talking about is like CHINESE for me....

it would be good for someone like the fireballed people to give their opinions here....or others whom have done this install before... it ceratinly is closer to my house then the USA...

The setup looks simple enough. I am very interested in this. I would definitely appreciate hearing how well this works from the experts though because like those above, i'm certainly no expert.

These pages seem to have more information as well as pricing: http://www.jetforcemanagement.co.uk/mct_170_turbo.htm

It only rates it about 55 HP over stock and boosts only up to 7 psi?....Shoot, for that much money a head, chip, exhaust and a few other things should yield the same amount of power.

55 additional hp out of a NA 1.6l motor without forced induction is a stretch. It only runs 7psi because you can't run alot of boost with a high CR without detonation. High CR, low boost set up will be very responsive.

alot of honda guys tune turbo motors with highcompression. you dont HAVE to lower compression, plus it appears to only be running 7psi

People have been turbo charging or supercharging engines that weren't originally meant for it for a while. Coming from a VW background, I know there were a number of superchargers and turbos available for originally NA engines. There are also a lot of forced induction kits available for BMW M3's. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those conversions left the compression stock when only looking for modest gains. I'd imagine keeping the heat down with an intercooler would help the detonation a bit. High octane would also help...

The MCS engine is much stronger to withstand the loads put on it from the super charger. Some of the differences between S and non-S are:

sintered instead of forged rods

cast instead of forged crank

inconel exhaust valves

higher oil capacity pump

oil sprayers under each piston

pistons of high temperature alloy (by Mahle) for the S. Not sure what the non-S pistons are.

much stronger gearbox in the S.

It would be a mistake to super/turbo charge the non-S cooper if longevity and reliability are important to you.

You're right. You don't have to lower it... as long as you like rebuilding engines. Lots of "bolt on" kits out there run about 7psi, because anything much above that and you're gonig to want to intercool it... then you might as well lower the compression ratio, and once you're at that point - why not just get a MCS and let the factory worry about how it's done?

yeah, regardless of the engine differences, the Midland tranny has been shown to be unreliable even at stock power levels. . .

Intercooling it has nothing to do with kicking pistons out the side of your boosted block. That just lowers air temps not detonation inside the engine.

Why loose all your equity in your MC and trade it in for an S? I'm gonna tear the motor down and do all custom stuff....the SAME THING I would do to my new $25K MCS. Where is the monetary advantage to that?!?

Lay the carbon fiber yourself, as much moding as you do. As for me carbon fiber is in the future and it will be a MC style. I like the lower hood line of the MC. Hood front and rear bumpers maybe side skirts as well. It will be a long process but worth it I think. I just don't have any experience with carbon fiber, just fibeglass, It should all lay up the same and the mold process is the same as well. Could have a kit by the time I'm done

Laying CF is out of my car modding territory. I really like my CF hood. Looks alot better since I put the fender molding on. I just need to do the grill now....

Not to high jack this thread but...not too much. Camber plates and scroth race nets for FREE..lol New too! Oh...and we also took my exhaust off so I'm running only the header and cat setup. It is ungodly loud. Sounds good though...I cant see the pic of your ride til I get home. Sweet car though!!!
