Alternator Question

i bought a new alternator for my MKIII mini but i think i was sent the wrong one. the post on the new alternator was too large for the fan and pulley from the old alternator.

my question's are:

1) can an 85 and newer alternator work where an older alternator used to be?

2) assuming i have the option, i could buy a new fan and pulley to go with the newer alternator or send the newer alternator back and get the correct one.

your thoughts?

I am not much help since I have a newer alternator on my car. Is it producing the same power or is it rated higher? I really don't think that higher would hurt, but I am no expert. I personally would stick with the same type that I had, so that I wouldn't have to replace parts. However, if you weren't getting enough power out of the older one and this one is more powerful then I would probably replace some parts.

I guess I really didn't help, sorry .

Is the OEM alternator good enough to power a couple of subs?

The better question is: where are you going to fit a couple of subs in a Mini?

Still seems like it would be pretty hard to park a couple of submarines in the back of a Mini!
