I would go to the moala meeting this wednesday in long beach - there should be about a hundred Mini owners there that can point you in the right direction. www.moala.org

I know of decent little yellow one in KY. I am sure that is a bit too far for you. Good luck in your search

Deals can be found on Ebay. I was watching a '61 Austin Seven 850cc. It was straight and runs strong. I was surprised that it sold for $3000.and I am glad to see it went to a good home. I'm sure pictures will be coming soon.

850 that runs strong. mini for 3K Don't stop this is making Rita a little more bearable. I bought my 67 S 20 years ago for 3k It was worth 6-7K then. I'm looking for a Fulvia Zagato for less than $800.US The alluminum bodied one. Thanks in advance?

Mini63 was looking for a "project car for around $3000" and I simply showed that you can get more than just a project car for that money. The person that bought it is happy with the Mini,so I guess that is all that really matters.

Seriously, they are out there still & this is a good way to locate them. Also call junkyards near airforce bases & larger cities w/multiple universities. Also there are many classic mini clubs, MOT (minis of texas) for example. Avoid minis with drum brakes up front. Expect to totally dissassemble the car & replace most everything or you will spend all your time breaking down. Als try to hookup with someone who has been there & done that to help steer you in the right direction. Nothing beats a classic, but the new ones come relatively close.

850s are dogs. 1275,1380+ are really fun & safe for hwy use too. Good luck!
Start with Arizona & New Mex. & see before buying!!

Check out The Mini Guy. Tends to run a bit more than $3K though.

I did a buyers check for a customer of his. He acts as a broker for buyer & seller & locates people on the car end to do a buyers check at the potential buyers expense. (normally about $100.) This is between the mechanic & customer
His broker fee is a bit stiff so save yourself some money & do your own legwork. Buy a couple out of town newspapers, hemmings motornews.....

Avoid minis with drum brakes up front.
Most low end minis will have drum brakes. There is nothing wrong with late model drum brakes in good condition & properly adjusted. If you buy a car with a 848, 998 or 1098 motor, drum brakes are just fine. If you want to autocross or go to a 1275 or 1380 disc brakes are a must.

Be aware that late model 8.4" disc brakes only work with 12" & 13" tires, NOT 10". So if you want 10" tires on your Mini, its drum brakes or Cooper S disc brakes (cha-ching $$$$). It all depends on how YOU use/drive your car and what look you want.

I know a guy in MA. he has some for like $3500. they have the 998cc engine, and are in running / driving condition, and are project worthy. Is that too far for you?

I don't know if you ever got your classic mini, but being in Southern CA, why not import one from NZ? Try tradeandexchange.nz , cars for low prices all the time. Shipping is about $1495

Good luck

got one

I'm the guy with the shell linked on the minimania site. I've also got a running, driving and registered mini I just imported from Australia and I have zero markup on it. Every penny I've had to pay in cash I've added to the actual cost of the car. Not included (coming at no charge) is my time, some parts, and my labor to get it in the condition it is now.I've got too many (9) and wife says some have to go. Price is $4250, firm/not negotiable. I'm in Escondido, CA. Our club meeting is this Sunday, Jan 8th 9am at Truly Yours in 2045 East Valley Parkway in Escondido and, if it hasn't sold by then, I'll be driving it there.

It's also listed on the for sale pages here on this site, me thinks.

Well, the 1967 listed has sold, but I still have the early shell and another shell with more modern features for much less $--starting at $1,000 and going up depending on how complete you'd want it.
