The passing of Jack Daniels

The Passing of Jack Daniels
I received a call this morning from a friend in England to tell me that Jack Daniels has passed away. Jack, together with Reg Job,worked with Sir Alec Issigonis to develop the Morris Minor. Jack was also a key developer of the hydrolastic suspension found in the classic Mini.
You can learn more about that here...

Jack regularly attended the Dorset chaper Morris Minor Club affairs. He was unable to attend last years Christmas dinner due to health problems...he was then in and out of nursing care throughout the year.

His death closes a great chapter in classic British motoring history..fortunately both the BBC and the Morris Minor Club have done extensive interviews with him so his legacy will be preserved.

Jack was 92.

Thanks for posting that, Peter ... sad passing , indeed ...

Alec Issigonis designed it, but Jack made it work! Daniels put the first couple cars togethet All By Himself ... just to make sure the assemble line would do what it was supposed to do ...

He was quite a man up to the end...While I never met him, my friend Dave did on many occasions as he's a very active MM club member. I am fortunate to have Jack's autograph on the menu from the Christmas dinner a couple years ago.

According to Dave, while he was such a brilliant designer and builder he was very unassuming. The most down to earth guy you'd ever hope to meet.

And John Cooper made it go!

All three of them are gone now. But what a legacy! I'll be hoisting a pint of Bass in memory of all three of them...
