Just bought this Mini, waiting for delivery

Hmm, no answer. OK I'll try ... here's what my book says:
From the grill and badge I'm guessing this is a MKI Cooper & not S
the 'base' Cooper from 61 thru 64 would have the 998 (actually 997) cc engine with 2 SU HS-2 carbs with 2 "wire" air cleaners.
64 - 69 Cooper is essentially the same but engine becomes true 998
Cooper S models in this time frame could have 1071 (63 64) or 970 (64 - 65) or 1275 . . .
MKII body comes into play in 67: grill, tail lights and other body features change.
reference: Walton, Mini Cooper and S, Motorbooks International 2004 (first published 1982)

this info is only helpful if the engine is original to the car btw because substituting a 1275 for a 998 for example is EASY ... they pretty much just bolt up no problem . .
and I could be wrong but I think I see some very NOT MKI things under the bonnet . . .
so maybe, like mine, this Mini has a few modifications...... like a MKI grill on a later body for example . . . I dunno . . . .

if not sure what it actually is
What year did you get told it is?
Picture of the dash helps ... what dials does it have and what is top speed of the speedo
Dry suspension or wet?
more pictures . . .
what ever it is .... do you like it? I've had mine for 10 years now . . .

Thank you. It is indeed. My Mini specialist, Jeremy Thorpe at Jet Motors here in Portland confirmed that.
Jet Motors has been working on it for the past week +. We'll be picking it up at the end of the week.
Has been explained to me that it is a Mk III made to look like a Mk I with a Cooper S conversion. Body is good but the engine needed many new parts.

The smaller bore engines are pretty easily identified by the head - the location of the heater valve and the distance between it and the valve cover - on a 1275 there's about 1/2" gap, on the smaller bore engines, there is virtually no gap - same with the thermostat housing.
Also, the rear alternator bracket is between #1 and #2, identifying it as an A+ motor, which only came in 998 and 1275....elementary, Dr. Watson!
